In a small village deep in the mountains of Shinshu, Japan, the tradition inherited from poverty is that the elderly who live to the age of 70 will be carried by the eldest son to Mt. The 69-year-old Arinpo (played by Sakamoto Sumiko) is not far from the days of Kaminayama, and she is often troubled by her unusually strong body.
Her husband was afraid of being thrown on Mt. Nara and ran away the year before, but Aringa didn't take it to heart. What she was worried about was the eldest son Tatsuira (played by Ogata Fist) and the second son Risuke, who was hated by the villagers. Sex-hungry, what worries him is that Chen Ping is as cowardly as his father and does not dare to carry her on Narayama's back to make him a laughing stock. Seeing that Chen Ping and his eldest grandson, Kasakaji have both married desirable wives, Chen Ping's new wife has learned how to catch fish, and Risuke has also tasted the taste of sex with her efforts.

Masterpiece by Masahei Imamura, Palme d'Or, Cannes, 1983. 1. Sex and death, the struggle for survival and the true nature of human nature are all manifested in the vulgar rituals. 2. The occasional shots of animal coitus and predation, alluding to the primitive and cruel animal nature of mankind, the execution of the thief family + owl-eater. 3. Infant killing, buried alive, father killing, abandoning the old, bestiality, widow rotation, maggot-like habitat. 4. Sensuous bones, crying jackdaws, drifting fine snow, sitting on the green cliffs. 5. Overlooking the village from the beginning to the end. (9.5/10)
