This is a film released in 1991. It describes the story of firefighters. The protagonists Stephen and Brian came from a family of firefighters, and their father died in fighting the fire. The older brother Stephen inherited his father's business and became the captain of a fire brigade. His younger brother Brian was also a firefighter, and later served as an assistant to Superintendent Lungo to investigate the recent series of arson cases. After going through the test of the raging fire many times, their spirits have been sublimated.
A very simple story. It is a tribute to the firefighters. According to us, it is full of positive energy. However, the story also contains many details of life. Stephen’s family dispute, Bryan’s job change, the ugly incident in the city government, the old arsonist in prison, Bryan’s love and so on. It is these details that support this story and also arouse some thinking from the audience.
Firefighters are a special profession. The reason why it is special is that this profession is the same as the police and the army, in addition to normal life, at critical moments, it needs to fight for life. As Stephen said to Bryan in the film: "This is not selling cabins. Performance is almost irrelevant. This job will kill people." Then, apart from those who pursue excitement and adventure, they can support people to pursue this career. , There is only faith. In Stephen, these two factors exist at the same time. He witnessed his father dying to fight the fire. He regarded the fire as an incomprehensible enemy and the fire scene as a battlefield. Like his father, he went to fight the fire, defeat it, or be consumed by the fire. People regard firefighters as heroes. Every time they defeat a fire, they are embraced and cheered by people. But few people think that when they enjoy these honors, the price they pay is the burns all over their bodies, the departure of their loved ones, and even their lives. In today's age of singing and dancing, life is still precious. And the person who realizes that his profession is always ready to give his life but has no hesitation, no matter whether he has really sacrificed or not, he is still worthy of people's respect and love.
In a fire situation, Stephen fought hard and rescued a little girl from the fire. But the moment Brian, who followed him into the fire, hesitated the moment he rushed in. Afterwards, Brian blamed himself very much, hated his cowardice, facelessly confronted colleagues and relatives and friends, so that he switched jobs. In fact, just as a careless person cannot do meticulous scientific research, and a less-spoken person is not suitable to be an orator, this has to do with everyone's personality. Stephen started with the kind of experienced person who made immediate decisions in case of trouble. Unlike Brian, he was a "rookie" according to Stephen's words, and he was indecisive and a little panic when he first went into battle. In fact, bravery and responsibility are not always reflected in the charge and battle in dangerous moments. Unfortunately, people's judgments of things are usually based on success or failure. To understand a person, the outcome of a thing is naturally important, and a thing can only be accomplished through the combination of motivation, process, and effect. Therefore, when people pay attention to the effects of things, don't forget the motives and processes of things, let alone examine his actions in many other things. Only in this way can we understand a person completely. From the film, we can see that when Brian investigated the arson case, he cooperated very well with the work of inspector Lengo. After Lengo was injured and hospitalized, he still insisted on independent investigation and found out layers of shady. Arsonist. When his brother encountered a critical moment in danger, Brian was also able to step forward to rescue in spite of the danger. Let us feel his sense of responsibility, his bravery and the shining side of humanity.
After Stephen rescued the little girl, people praised him as a "hero." In this regard, Stephen himself said: "It has nothing to do with the hero. I went in to save the child." Hearing what he said, I couldn't help but think of a novel I had read before, "Song of Ouyang Hai" by Jin Jingmai. When Ouyang Hai rushed to the train in the novel, he remembered many things. Since I suffered from childhood, I have always thought of the interests of people all over the world. After thinking so much, he almost delayed him to stop the horse. Of course, exaggeration and fiction in literary works are inevitable. But I don't think so much over and over in an instant. In real life, when a good person or a bad person is faced with a thing, it is often subconscious whether it should be done or not. And this "subconscious" is the accumulation of his many years of life experience, which comes from his education, his ears and eyes, and the influence of countless sensibility or rational knowledge. This consciousness has long been firmly engraved in his heart. For example, when you see a penny in the underground on the road, the innocent children think of "hand it over to the uncle of the police", some old aunts think of "you are a bastard if you are cheap", and Bill Gates thinks of "yes." I can make more money during this time of picking up money." Different education in different environments can bring up different people and produce different consciousness and thinking. When you encounter something, you can make a judgment without thinking too much. In the subconscious of Stephen in the film, first of all, saving people is regarded as the most important thing, and his responsibility as a firefighter is to save people from the fire. Do these still need to be considered and demonstrated?
I watched this movie entirely because of De Niro. De Niro plays the role of Superintendent Charlengo in the film, a supporting role. There are not many dramas and few lines, but the performance is still so lively and interesting, and it doesn't take other people's dramas.
The fire scene in the film is very real. It is said that there have been a few fires, and the film stunts in the 90s can be made like this, and the director has taken great pains. Regrettably, the director put a lot of energy into the real fire scene, and the plot concept was slightly thin. Stephen's family relationship is very blunt, and the story of the arsonist is not well made, which is unbelievable.
My rating: 6.0.
