I watched "Search" twice. The first time I watched it, I hadn't come out of the state of love, which affected the attachment. After watching it, I felt a little shocked when I sat there. I wanted to reflect on something, but I could only experience eroticism. , which can be regarded as "only because of being in this mountain". The second time I watched it calmly, it became clearer. Only then did I understand why the silly and sweet Patrick was unhappy.
The characters in the play are all about to come out, but the one who is the most detailed and resonates with me the most is Patrick. When you meet Patrick for the first time, you will probably like him. There is nothing to hate about him, he is kind and simple, full of vitality, harmless to people and animals, and complains when he is wronged. He has a very high moral standard, but it's not unbearably harsh. He would criticize certain ideas of his friends and then put them into practice himself. His character can be said to be considerate and considerate of others, or it can be said that he loves to escape and does not dare to take responsibility. So he is a lovely friend, but can only be a failed lover.
Whenever Patrick's romance starts to take its course, the evils of his character begin to emerge, hurting himself and others. Patrick once wanted to invite Richie to his sister's wedding on a whim, but at the wedding, he was afraid that his family would not accept Richie's collapse on the road. At the end of the wedding, Patrick went to his mother to complain, trying to put his cowardice and the pressure of Richie's departure on his mother, but was educated by his mother who did not accept such accusations. On this night of extreme failure, the boss Kevin kissed Patrick forcefully, giving Patrick back his psychological support. So afterward, despite the moral hesitation, Patrick and Kevin, who already had a boyfriend, became a couple willingly.
If you cut into Patrick's perspective, then the world must be "alienated". He can't be himself, only the world is wrapping around him like a torrent, and he doesn't know where to rush. But from our perspective, he just doesn't dare to be himself. He dare not accept a little accusation, dare not take a little responsibility. He just hopes that there is such a person who can help him bear all the moral dilemmas, help him make all the difficult choices, and make him happy. In the eyes of the audience, Patrick is hypocritical.
But it seems wrong to say that Patrick is hypocritical, because he didn't do it on purpose, he didn't realize his problem. So at the end of the second season, the director arranged for his mother to "teach by words and deeds", derailed his doctor spiritually, and left his long-loved husband, Patrick's father. This is unacceptable and immoral in Patrick's view. But Mom apparently didn't care that much about Patrick's so-called morality. In addition to being shocked, Patrick also had the idea of making his own life, and offered to move to live with Kevin, although he moved out early the next morning. Maybe Patrick's choices here are still impulsive and irrational, but the act of him trying to take control of his life has proven that he's starting to grow and mature.
In the movie, although Patrick will still struggle, he can also be seen rarely quarrel with Richie's boyfriend, and eventually reunite with Richie. When Richie said he didn't want to take care of another person endlessly, Patrick said he didn't need to take care of him, he could take care of Richie. In the final scene of the film, Richie leans on Patrick. The camera zooms out, and the group and their stories fade out of our field of vision, but we know that Patrick's growth and the courage to take on will book a happy ending for the story that hasn't been told in time.
