"Serious Moonlight"
such a serious title and a light comedy are linked together, as if "serious" and "moonlight" are linked together to form the name of a movie abrupt. But big blockbusters don't necessarily have matching themes, such as "The Promise", "Avatar" ("Avatar" is a Western in terms of its theme), and small movies may also contain deep meanings, such as "Lola" " Rashomon. Although considering that this film is based on the theme of vulgar love, and there is no innovation in the film language, it is obviously not comparable to the classics of the masters, but it is not bad to do some digging. Moreover, from this perspective, the film can be better understood, so why not do it?
Using the structuralist construction method, it is not difficult to find that the heroine in the film represents feminist thought. In patriarchy, women are subordinate and men are dominant. And at the beginning of the film, we clearly see what we call a strong woman. She is wearing a uniform, don't clean the car, and don't give instructions to the assistant, just like a busy and successful person. And the director used the technique of contrast montage to record a man dressed casually and bringing flowers home to decorate the house. After a comparison, we have a general understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the two. We know from the back that her income is higher than that of men, her status is higher than that of men, and her social circle is upper class. In patriarchy, women are slience, they are voiceless. Men have a voice, and in the film, we hear the hero say to the heroine, "you always have voice over me." Considering she's a lawyer , this is not surprising. In addition, in a patriarchal society, women and men are given different gender roles. Women should be weak, docile, and passive, while men should be strong, firm, and active. In the film, we find the heroine constantly challenging this stereotype. First, it was she who bound him, not the other way around, like one of the rhinos in love. On both occasions the heroine knocked out her fleeing husband with a flower pot. At the same time, it is interesting that the heroine plays the guitar to find love, which is supposed to be done by men. She also uses intelligence to measure a woman, including herself and the mistress. We say that men are talented and beautiful, and intelligence is the quality a man should have. This idea of the heroine proves her rebellion against gender role.
In contrast, we see a husband who wants to restore patriarchy. He couldn't stand this kind of feminist domination, he couldn't stay with a woman who said the same thing, couldn't stay with a woman who made more money. And decided to elope with a woman who "needs him". Note that the woman needs him, which means he is active in their relationship, and he restores his patriarchal dominance in his relationship with the mistress, fulfilling his desires.
Therefore, it can be said that the marital conflict between them is essentially a struggle between feminist domination and the desire to restore male dominance. The development and resolution of contradictions are also closely linked to this essence. There are two things that make men tempted, one is the memory of their wedding. We can take this as a metaphor for their beautiful memories and deep feelings, which paved the way for the later reunion, or it can be seen as a satisfaction of patriarchal domination. In the wedding ceremonies inherited from the ancient male-dominated society, men are in the active position, and women are given subordinate positions, which are reflected in many details such as clothing and ritual order. Therefore, the hero finds his own active position in this mandatory ritual of showing male power, which is his most beautiful memory of them. The second is that when the heroine fainted, he suddenly realized his own value, that is, to protect his woman. This realization made him rediscover the self-esteem that men are stronger than women, and find the satisfaction of male domination. And his inability to do anything was not his fault, it was his woman's fault, which made it easy for him to get rid of the flaw that he actually didn't do anything. In this way, the contradiction between their male and female rights was resolved with the result of the new victory of male power, and they started a new life.
But apparently the director didn't want women to hand over their guns. After they have a child, the man finds out that his wife and the thief who entered his house knew each other, which means that the burglary that brought them back together was a bitter trick planned by the heroine. His seemingly restoration of patriarchal rule is nothing but a new way for women to continue to rule over him. The film comes to an abrupt end, and what happens next is left to the reader.
In fact, the main behind-the-scenes producers of this film include the director, and the script is all women, so it is not difficult to explain why the film was shot in this way. Of course, in many cases, the film's depiction of feminism carries the creator's wishful thinking and is divorced from reality, so I won't go into details here.
