dark youth

Yesterday afternoon, I finished reading "All About Lily Zhou" by Shunji Iwai alone. Very depressing. I wonder why I can keep watching it all in one breath. In fact, many times during the viewing process I wanted to give up. But there seemed to be something driving me somewhere, and in the end I insisted on reading it.

The whole movie is very dark (at least I think so). Although there are also many scenes of a green grass field extending endlessly to the sky, this does not modify the more gloomy pictures in the movie: the light in the house is gloomy when Hasumi and his family are eating, Hasumi and two My friend was riding a bike out on a dark night. When the class was rehearsing the chorus, the entire classroom was dark. Even after Hoshino's death, when Hasumi quietly passed by Kuno, who was engrossed in playing the piano, the curtains were drawn. Sunlight can't get in. so many kinds.

The style of the film is not as beautiful and moving as Shunji Iwai's "Love Letter" that I have seen before. "All About Lily Zhou" tells a story about the pain of a teenager growing up. It is still a juvenile theme that Iwai loves. But the whole story is too painful. Although growth is constant transformation, and transformation is the most painful.

Hasumi gave me pain. The special family environment is doomed that he cannot grow up as stable as ordinary children. At the beginning of the film, Hasumi and his friends went to a video store to steal CDs. From the very beginning, the film has created a boy who is off track for us. However, the audience didn't hate him because of that, because he just kept silently following behind those friends, saying nothing, silently. Hasumi's silence was astonishing. Even Hoshino planned to seduce the innocent Kuno, Hasumi remained silent. Sadly, Hasumi personally led Kuno to that warehouse. Seeing the person he likes walking towards the fire pit with his own eyes, Hasumi didn't stand up to stop it, but just cried bitterly outside the warehouse. I said Hasumi is not annoying, but just a heart-wrenching child. Hasumi's pain is due to his incompetence and cowardice. I was even surprised how he could do this to his favorite Kuno. Just as Kuno was walking towards the warehouse, he once turned his head to look at Hasumi. But Hasumi still stood there, unmoved. Even in the face of Hoshino's repeated bullying and humiliation, Hasumi still endured silently. Hasumi's silence was suffocating.

Although Hoshino in the film has done all the bad things, he also feels pain to me. He was also a painful child. After watching the whole film, I have been wondering why Hoshino has changed so much. Before the trip to Okinawa, he and Hasumi were very close, ranked seventh in the grade in the exam, and was selected to speak on the stage. But after returning from Okinawa, his whole person became unreasonable. His actions continue to hurt friends and classmates around him. What he did to Lianjian made Lianjian miserable. And he himself is not well (he talked on the Internet as a "green cat" and said that he was also in pain and so on). Before the transformation, Hoshino wore a white shirt and black pants, the image of a very clean boy. But later Hoshino wore a dark gray coat and a hat. It was like a boy who came out of the darkness. But I believe Hoshino is suffering. While he tortured others, he also tortured himself severely. There is a scene in the film where Hoshino listens to Lily Zhou's CD in the verdant grass, and then shouts hysterically. However, the audience could not hear his cry, but only heard Lily Zhou's soft chants floating in the high sky. At that moment, I knew that Hoshino's heart would not be better than Lianmi. But even he couldn't stop himself from humiliating others.

Growth, youth, and campus are often regarded as beautiful words. However, we often overlook the little-known gloom and sadness behind these beautiful things. And Iwai showed us all this mercilessly. Although depressing, we cannot deny its existence.

This movie is synonymous with pretense, which makes me extremely despise. The only advantage is that the picture is good-looking, suitable for use as a photo album. Speaking of cruel youth, the content of this film is only thin, and it is amazing to be able to shoot for so long.

It is beautiful, but it shouldn't be all.
