Different from the classic gangster movies, this movie is about the process of the traditional gangster model being replaced and dissipated in the vast process of historical torrents. Although the front was too long, the last 45 minutes was very exciting. There are also some mainstream political ideologies involved in the film (such as the populism and multi-ethnic integration that propped up the whole film), but there is no too obvious propaganda stance; on the contrary, the film is given to local gangs. Helping Bill with enough humanity and respect, almost made him a heroic character. Like some other Scorsese films, this film wandered on the edge of the blockbuster, eventually surpassing the blockbuster's stereotyped trap and reaching new heights. (Towel City)

After they cut out the baby... well, he doesn't fancy girls that's scarred up. But you might as well know in your own mind that he never laid a hand on me until I asked him to.

  • [as a man is about to be hung]

Bill: That's a fine locket. I'll give you a dollar for it.

    Arthur: It was me mother's...

    Bill: Dollar and a half?

    Arthur: Done.
