A window of psychology

"The Dangerous Method"-a psychological biographical film about the controversy between Freud and Jung on psychoanalysis. Can be used as a window to understand psychology. I love so much.

The film mainly talks about a young and beautiful female patient Sabina who was greatly inspired by two psychologists, Freud and Jung, and deeply influenced them. In the end, Jung and Freud parted ways. .

The differences between Jung and Freud are:

Freud: The connotation of repression is the underlying sexual impulse or sexual experience.

For psychotherapy, Freud is an attitude of obedience to nature: the world is so, understanding and accepting it is the way to mental health, what is the use of simply replacing other people's fantasies?

Jung: Strictly define the scope of sexual impulse. In some cases, sexual problems are not an absolutely important factor that causes disease, but only play an additional and secondary role.

For psychotherapy, Jung emphasized the transformation and remodeling of physicians. He hoped to turn patients into what they wanted to be.

Jung criticized the concept of Libido that must be redefined. Sexual theory is too narrow, and Fu's causal simplification theory-to regard all disagreements as a "father-killing motive" is also partial and comprehensive, and strongly criticizes it. Fu's theory of returning to infancy. This is because the conflicts mainly occur in the present, rather than in the past as Freud emphasized.

But at the same time we have to admit that a person's childhood experience has a great influence on character and behavior.

Regarding these two different methods of psychotherapy by Jung and Freud, I personally believe that it depends on the actual situation of the individual. Accepting reality is not necessarily negative, and reforming will also encounter many difficulties. Without transformation or reshaping, sometimes the source of the problem cannot be truly touched.

Sabina: Sex involves not only the instinct of life, but also the destruction and creation of self, as well as the instinct of death.

The physician himself is also the patient. It was because of her illness that Sabina developed her own set of theories and completed the cure for herself. From this point of view, Freud's saying that "everyone is a little neurotic" is quite reasonable.

However, Freud's theory, a large part of its fame, is his theory of sex, and it is also his theory of sex that has been criticized. His doctrine belongs to the twentieth century, now it seems to be outdated, and subjectively too strong. The pioneering significance of his theory is far greater than the theoretical value itself. Just look at the psychoanalytic things, some don’t need to be taken seriously.

A Dangerous Method quotes

  • Sabina Spielrein: [Sabrina is discussing her studies at medical school] When my father brought me to you I was very ill and my illness was sexual. It's clear that the subject I'm studying is entirely grounded in sexuality so naturally I'm becoming more and more acutely awake of the fact that I have no sexual experience.

Carl Jung: Law students are not normally expected to rob banks.

  • Sigmund Freud: I think perhaps you should entertain the possibility that it represents the penis.
