What I really don't like is that someone dies repeatedly in the movie, and often the death of this person does not reveal much. Two of the seven people with high combat effectiveness (Retired Marines, if you remember correctly) were shot and killed just after returning to the Middle Ages. One was stupid enough to carry a grenade back to the Middle Ages, and ended up in despair. The present tense blew up the experimental equipment and killed all his companions miserably.
I feel that the portrayal of the characters in the movie is relatively pale. Not only the female historian Katie, the person who took them back, but also the commander of the French army, they all tend to fall into madness when the situation turns sharply, and their emotions are overwhelming and sad. No one is more calm and able to turn the tide in a crisis. This is far from a big movie like The Lord of the Rings. I personally think that the creation of heroes should allow people to see the compassion when darkness falls and the hope before dawn.
When writing this film review, I have been listening to the ending music. The soundtrack is still very beautiful, with a European medieval taste.
Although the war scene in the whole movie is not grand, it only portrays a battle in the Hundred Years' War between Britain and France, but the scene of the roaring siege rocket at night is still spectacular and shocking. And chanting slogans to each other during the confrontation between Britain and France is also very interesting for language learners. What's more, going back to the past to experience history in person should also be quite attractive to historians.
The indispensable factor in such works that describe time travel is to change history and the love story between modern and ancient people. I still feel that the love between two people is romantic, but the space in the film is short.
There is a sentence in the film that says, "We have 650 years of knowledge than them." But in actual combat, modern people who have lived in the office for a long time may not be able to win in actual combat against ancient people who are used to fighting on the battlefield. . Thinking about it this way, in fact, the premature death of so many small characters in the film has also become the cruelty of this time-and-space theme. Going back to the Middle Ages may not be as romantic as we imagined. We usually think of unspoiled beauty, romantic poems, graceful demeanor of noble knights, etc., things that have been beautified by time and history, but never Think of the terrifying reality of the language gap, poor sanitation, epidemics, and so on.
Generally speaking, the film seems to try to shape something from many angles, such as time travel, history, family affection, love, friendship, betrayal, and so on. There are also many clues. But non-universal failure also led to non-universal success. Of course, if you are a fan of medieval history and fantasy like me, this film is still worth watching.
