Extended version of MTV

This musical "Crossing the Sky", full of the Broadway style of New York, is directed by the Tony Award-winning director, Julie Taymor, who is known for writing and directing Broadway stage plays and movies. The story is inspired by the classic tracks of the world-renowned Beatles. Through a main line and three auxiliary lines, 32 popular Beatles songs are connected, youth, dreams, love, idealism, and of course beautiful music. Together with the colorful pictures, the audience experience an MTV-like dream journey of.

The main line of the movie is the tortuous love story between the British boy Jude and the typical middle-class American daughter Lucy. The names of the characters in the movie are all taken from the names mentioned in the Beatles songs. This line itself can be said to be quite satisfactory, but the anti-Vietnam War background in the 1960s coincides with the current anti-war calls in the United States, and it resonates with the general background; as for the logical nature of the story itself, the audience can’t go deep into it, and some of the plots in the middle even It completely adopts the aesthetic shooting method of music TV and is out of the category of narrative movies. After all, the main theme of musical movies is always music-based, with plot as a supplement, so the story cannot be too demanding.

Nevertheless, "Crossing the Sky" still has a side line in the development of the story which is quite exciting. When portraying the front line of love between a black guitarist and a female rock singer, the story begins in Detroit, the hometown of the black guitarist. It is based on the Detroit riots in the 1960s and is led by a black child who hides behind a car and faces violence and panic. The classic song "Let It Be" was released, and then the camera jumped back and forth in two funeral scenes, organically combined with the lyrics, and completed the film's first emotional climax. Then the black guitarist left his hometown and brought his guitar to New York.

On the other hand, the story of the girl Prudence is completely far-fetched. Apart from the sole purpose of eliciting the song "Dear Prudence", it has no substantive significance to the development of the plot and is purely redundant.

The three major singers in the movie, the British actor Jim Sturgess who plays Jude can be said to have opened his stardom through this movie. Since then, another rising star has been added to the list of Hollywood idol actors; as Lucy Evan Rachel Wood was even more successful during the recording of "If I Fell" during the same period. The 20-year-old young actor performed both vocal and versatility. In 2007, she became the leading actress in the independent film "The King of California" in collaboration with Michael Douglas. It was also screened in parts of North America at the same time, and the reviews were quite affirmed for her performance; and the actor/singer Dana Fuchs who plays the rock female singer Sadie in the film has her own band in New York. The voice is full of magnetism, and the sound has a strong sense of power and penetration. Sex is my favorite singer in the film.

On the whole, the song and dance movie "Crossing the Sky" is like an extended version of an exquisite MTV, full of nostalgia and nostalgia. Although there are many flaws in the plot, it is still very aftertaste for audiences who love the Beatles.

Across the Universe quotes

  • Jude: What is that place?

Prankster: The headquarters of the league of spiritual deliverance!

Dr. Robert: The home of Dr. Gary, another outlaw, like myself. We're navigators, we're aviators, we're eatin' tators, masturbatin' alligators, bombardiers, we got no fears, we don't shed no tears, we're pushin' the frontiers... of transcendental perception. What's weird is, we haven't met yet, on this or any other plane.

Prankster: Hey doc, he says he won't see you, man.

Dr. Robert: Why, is he sick?

Prankster: He just said he's busy.

Dr. Robert: Did you tell that

    [sniff]

Dr. Robert: sonofabitch that we drove 3,000 miles to see him? Alright, everybody back on the bus. We're going home, to California.

Max: Doc, California isn't home to all of us.

Dr. Robert: What can I say? You're either on the bus, or off the bus.

  • Mr. Kite: It's me!

    [music blast]

    Mr. Kite: In the thing!
