Media and public power

The text construction is like Freud's, the cohabiting mother, the FBI representing the patriarchy went from being trusted and guarded to questioning and rebelling. But the ending is really clever. The backlog of emotions has reached a threshold. Traditional narratives need to find the exit of the breach of the embankment and construct the arc of characters. Putting it in the text is basically the non-prosecution waste paper with the Federal Court Chapter. The abnormal thing is that the mood is surprisingly flat. After Watson finished you win, it's over, Richard shed calmly, and the next shot, things were moved home, the investigation was over, and life continued to flow smoothly.

Many highlights in life are indeed the same when I think about it. It is definitely not the ecstasy that can be jumped out of the montage in the promotional film. But the abnormal and true calmness builds a bloody and tangible text: Richard is still an unknown person after all, the common bullseye of the judicial system and the public media, the identity of heroes and suspects, are all given and shaped, so Under a system, freedom and democracy are indeed nonsense. Quite right-wing statements will undoubtedly carve scars in history peacefully along with life.

I really want to mention how the mass media, as one of the perpetrators, imposes a lot of evil on a small person who believes in the government but has been betrayed.

The attributes of one type of mass media are quite obvious, that is, as a vassal and mouthpiece of politics, trying to make people gobble up in the trash can of ideology that is arranged by one hand. This is party spirit.

The other type is more dependent on human nature. That is, to obtain more favorable survival resources under the social Darwin's law, that is, to gain circulation and click-through rate in exchange for rewards by breaking news without a lower limit.

Give two examples-

In 1938, CBS successfully created a listening record through a novel radio drama "Martians Invaded the Earth", but things quickly got out of control. Quite a few citizens believed that the Martians did invade a certain state and fled with their families. When CBS stepped up and repeatedly stated that this was just a radio drama, no one wanted to believe that it was really a farce, after all, there were still three people who became tigers. This resulted in a huge sensation caused by the public media for the first time in history.

The second case is relatively closer to us and has reference value. In 1997, Taiwanese actress Bai Bingbing's daughter Bai Xiaoyan was kidnapped on her way to school. In the course of the investigation, the hidden case was obtained and exposed by the media through unknown means, and continued to build momentum, which almost directly led to the killing of Bai Xiaoyan. In the film, the female reporters used unconventional means to obtain strong materials and it is almost no different.

However, the female journalist finally shed tears, which is also caused by human nature, and it is also the bottom line of the media for truth and goodness. For example, Henan reporter Cui Songwang pretended to be a handicapped homeless man and went deep into the brick kiln to expose, and Du Qiang wrote a long non-fictional work in Sanhe Undercover for more than 40 days.

The choice of mass media will undoubtedly group people intentionally or unintentionally, and being recognized and accepted by the group is the eternal pursuit of mankind. But what is more eternal than it is the pursuit of freedom and truth.

As for the public power represented by the FBI, it has striking similarities across times, spaces, and races. The slight difference is that the set of self-employed support, can not give Richard such a free right to speak.

In Korean movies, we can only see the characters crying and grabbing the ground. In Chinese movies, we can only pray that there will be kindness from nobles at the end, but Dongmu, from the perspective of pragmatism, uses a tone as gentle as Jewell himself, clear Tell the audience what to do and what not to do when you get crushed, and set an example for everyone. Yet while the film's point of departure is righteous, the unnecessary fiction of the journalist's line for drama is deeply immoral. Dongmu borrowed the media to "return the way of others", and transferred the conflict to the media and individuals, ignoring the injuries Kathy Scruggs herself suffered in the incident, and her death in the aftermath of the incident even earlier than Richard Jewell fact. Though the second half of the script tries to make amends, the over-the-top lines and Wilde's exaggerated portrayal of the character make the end of the rumination unhelpful. I think after the movie ends, the audience will not condemn the real murderer of the case, only Scruggs is wrongly hung on the pillar of shame, but no one will be willing to avenge her who has done her due diligence.

After the incident, employees who disputed the jurisdiction, news organizations' paranoid pursuit of hot spots and the so-called truth, and even left-right differences and prototype disputes that spread beyond the film. But like the original name chosen for the prototype report, it was an "American nightmare." Richard's story well explains why starting from "Colored Glasses", more "grievances" deserve more attention. Such tragedies are not just black and white, but are superimposed by the system, society and culture. This also makes the execution of the story not only stay on such a simple (but conservative enough) character creation, so some people will be more curious about the perspective of "The Bomber" in the new season (when Cameron Britton was officially announced, the whole The expectation is raised). But Paul Walter Hauser's performance (especially the last half hour) is the key to making it all happen. From "Late Night Show" to "Black Klansman", every character who appears in seconds can be counted, please don't underestimate every "nobody". Great energy and light.

Richard Jewell quotes

  • Richard Jewell: You're the only one who treated me like a human being! And now you're yelling at me, telling me I have to be somebody that I'm not! I'm not that guy, you're that guy!

  • Watson Bryant: You know, I actually feel sorry for you guys: when the real bomber does it again, and the country asks, 'where was the FBI?' you're gonna say, 'we were busy getting hair samples from Richard Jewel.'
