The JINGYAO case is about to go to court again. I just saw this drama and felt that there were many issues in it that I could talk about.
(Spoiler! Spoiler! Spoiler!)
The line between Hannah and Mitch is the core issue in many cases of sexual assault: when a powerful person commits a sexual assault, the weaker party does not explicitly refuse, and the weaker party receives some benefit compensation after the sexual assault occurs.
Mitch thinks that this is a clear one-handed payment, one-handed delivery, and even when he plans to open an interview, he thinks Hannah can help himself.
Another point is also very accurate: I am one of the best host in the country, and you are a small clerk who has just joined the company. I will take you back to the hotel to watch a movie. What will happen to you?
I talked with a friend who studied law before, and the other person’s idea of metoo is that suspected crime is never the cornerstone of the law. If there is no definite evidence, it cannot be convicted. I personally agree with this point, but at the same time it should be noted that metoo is not a legal trial, but more of a moral condemnation and a social level of protest. At this level, it is reasonable for the powerful in sexual assault to use social pressure to commit sexual assault.
There is also a very deep dialogue between Mitch and an old friend in the play. Compared to Mitch, Jagger is a much fancied sexual assailant (or even pedophile). He publicly devalues women and has no sympathy, and Mitch gradually breaks himself out in the process of dialogue with him: you're the predator, I 'm not.
Mitch's core argument for his innocence is that all sexual relations between him and his staff are consensual (consensual). But what does this agreement show in hannah? It is the worship and admiration of newcomers in the workplace facing the great god, and the gratitude of the other person for appreciating their work ability. When Hannah faced the teacher’s invitation to "go back to the room to watch a movie", she might have thought about whether this was a personality signal, but of course she was not willing to refuse the teacher’s kindness out of thin air because she worked hard and wanted to stand out. Maybe he just wanted to talk to me Chat?
My mother told me since I was young that it is best not to go to the male teacher's office alone, but to call other classmates together. But when your tutor is really looking for you for something, it is almost impossible for you to "Oh, I have a classmate and I will drop by", this is too suspicious.
So what should it be? Deny all opportunities to go to the male superior's office alone? Therefore, the responsibility of "protecting oneself" falls on women and disadvantaged groups, and at the same time means giving up the opportunity to work normally. Originally, these problems can be solved from the source by small measures such as transparent meeting rooms and open office doors. Why are these small measures not implemented? Because the holders of power are enjoying the benefits.
What is Metoo for? It was to express that's not okay. It was to sound the alarm to Fred and other people who did not participate in the sexual assault but condoned the behavior.
Hannah's death is a cruel reality. If she accepts LA's job, then she will never be able to get rid of the bad words that others think she is "sleeping all the way"; and if she gives up everything she currently has, then she also gives up all her efforts. Her explanation and crying are just "now you're playing the game" in front of the sex offenders, and it seems that only her own death can wake them up.
Another branch I like very much is Claire and Yanko. Claire has always been the more push side of this relationship. She took the initiative to pursue Yanko, and she can feel that she has been pushing the development of this relationship. Claire told Yanko in a conversation that in this relationship, I am the power holder, and my dad can buy the entire company with a single phone call.
So this sideline discussion is, if a workplace relationship is relatively balanced in power and there is no obvious oppression and control, can this relationship be acceptable?
The discussion of the plot is: acceptable, but you will experience a lot of pressure. Whether it’s from HR or friends around you, those who really care about you will worry about you, thinking that you can’t see the reality or dare not speak under pressure, and malicious people have already told you a hundred uses behind the scenes. Hue is a joke of climbing up.
This may be the reason why workplace romances are not favored from the source.
I even wanted to abandon the first few episodes of this show. I felt that it was just an annoyance for the famous female anchor. It wasn't until the last three episodes that it gradually reached its climax, revealing a lot of truths in small views.
First, no one is a friend forever. When Bradley decided to interview Mitch, Cory wanted to persuade Chip to join in. Chip was naturally hesitant as Alex's partner for many years, but he also gave up Alex after gradually recognizing the situation.
Conversely, when Fred proposed to replace Chip with Marton, Alex hesitated at first, and then decisively gave up Chip.
Of course, there are a lot of hesitations and mutual temptations to inherit and reconcile, but the core principle is still that interests are paramount, and this interest is always changing, and a little carelessness becomes a disadvantage in the power struggle.
(I just knelt and watched and thought, if this left me, I would have died in the first episode.)
Second, your bargaining chip is likely to become a condition for the opponent to threaten you. It all depends on when and how to show the bargaining chip.
I was more impressed by NYTimes reporter Maggie. She was Alex's friend first, and then she started interviewing Bradley. After Chip and her showdown, hoping to expose Fred, she cautiously expressed "This is not enough to bring him down", but after Hannah's evidence was sufficient, she confessed to Fred head-on. With the whole set down, it will make people feel that there is no so-called “knowledge” in the workplace. Everything is profit. What you need to do is not to become a good person, but to become a profitable person.
In short, it is a good drama. It is a platform that I have seen in recent years not only to condemn sexual assailants, but to discuss the balance of power from all angles of sexual assault. Looking forward to the next season very much.
