Everyone has a way back

Tell the story of a young man in Maine. A person who has never seen a lobster, has never seen the sea, nor has seen a woman in the true sense, always feels that the world should be bigger and broader. Dreaming of getting out of the orphanage. Finally came to an apple orchard by car and picked apples with the immigrants. See the rude and frank life, see the fight and incest. Everything is nothing more than that. Love is just the occasional burning of the lonely hearts of young men and women.

The whole movie seems to be telling a summary of the story. The touching details are not too many. But the outline can contain more things. Dreams, future, frustrations, affection... These things are simply placed in front of you and you can see them. Everything is part of growth.

The movie did not show too much the scene of the orphanage after the boy left. But the sad parting has been interspersed every minute afterwards. He will still go back. Everyone knows it. Everyone has a way back, no matter how far they go. Looking back on this matter, in our final decision, it seemed very satisfactory and very important.

This person later saw the lobster and the sea. Of course, nothing greater has been done. But as a worker picking apples, he really did a pretty good job. Although the world is really big. But there are only a few places that really suit us.

The Cider House Rules quotes

  • [Homer reads the actual Cider House Rules to the illiterate workers]

Peaches: What do they think, go up to the roof to sleep? They must think we're crazy. They think we're dumb niggers, so we need some dumb rules, is what they think.

Rose Rose: That's it? It don't mean nothin' at all. And all this time I been wonderin' about 'em.

Arthur Rose: They outrageous, them rules. Who live in this cider house? Who grindin' up those apples, pressin' that cider, cleanin' up all this mess? Who just plain live here, just breathin' in that vinegar? Well, someone who don't live here made those rules. Those rules ain't for us. We are supposed to make our own rules. And we do. Every single day.

  • Homer Wells: I'm not a doctor. I haven't been to medical school; I haven't even been to high school.
