The misread Forster has a different starting point from Lynch

Some people say that the content is empty and it is far from Lynch's level. In fact, at the beginning, I thought this film was a little Lynch-like.

But at the end of the movie, you will find out why it can be compared.

Lynch used the dream theme to piece together the truth through dream fragments and a small amount of reality, and the theoretical basis borrowed from Freudian psychology.

And this Stay is not presented as a dream, and the starting point is different. The male protagonist experiences a near-death experience, involving psychology & psychology, and medical case endorsements.

Maybe everyone thinks that the content is empty/not as good as Lynch because Stay’s story can’t be connected to a result at the end. Those are just illusions and illogical illusions (therefore immediately lost the excitement of reasoning and the pleasure of predicting the ending).

In fact, if you can accept the setting of near-death experience, everything is easier to make sense: most of this kind of experience cases at home and abroad have experienced similar experiences in the film. For example, a girl in China was seriously ill and lost consciousness, and she saw it when she was young. Animation flashes by, or life experience is like a movie rewinding, or seeing myself pulling away from my body standing by the bed and witnessing my mother crying and shaking and not waking up... etc. Refer to these actual cases, it is. No logical combination of illusions. It will use the unconscious associations in the brain to form illusions from the things that they hear and see in reality. People can't be fully awake at the time of death. This is well-founded.

I was fortunate enough to read books in this area, so I didn't miss/misunderstand a good movie (and I really like its color and soundtrack).

Very dazzling photography, very ambitious themes, very creative productions, very large stance, very ordinary movies.

The spiritual activity lingering in the experience of frequent death creates a dream by mapping objective things. In this dream, the protagonist forgives himself and finally obtains redemption.

Stay quotes

  • Lila Culpepper: You know, the day I did it, I took two razorblades to the bathtub. You know why? Because I knew that once I started to bleed, I'd get weak. And I didn't wanna drop one blade and leave myself half done. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine hating your life so much that you'd wanna bring a backup razor?

  • Sam Foster: [looking at the empty pill bottles] You can't drink while you're taking these.

Dr. Beth Levy: Mm. Apparently I can.
