This film tells a true story that happened in the small town of Huntington, West Virginia. The town’s rugby tradition has a long history. For decades, athletes, coaches, fans and their families have cheered for the Marshall University team. In the local area, rugby is not only a sport, but cheering for the Marshall University rugby team has become a way of life for people. But the accident in 1970 changed all that. On the night of November 14, the coaches and players of the Marshall University football team returned to Huntington from North Carolina after the game. As a result, the plane crashed and all 75 people were killed. The mental shock caused by this major loss to everyone is irreparable.

While everyone was immersed in grief and collapsed, the young coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) of the Thundering Herd football team at Marshall University decided to rebuild the team. Although not favored at first, and even faced the crisis of being disbanded and the twists and turns of looking for players everywhere, with the help of team survivor Red Dawson (Matthew Fox), everything seems not impossible. Gradually, the attitude of the residents of the town began to change, and the team also achieved the first victory with the joint efforts of the coaches and players.

There are many Chinese names for this film: "Same Ball", "Come on, Marshall", "Some Successors", "Our One Heart", "Hope Is Everlasting", and "Same Ball" is more used by publicity. But after watching the film, I prefer to call it "We are Marshall", which is the slogan of the Marshall University football team and also represents a belief of the Marshalls.

A flash of lightning drove the Marshalls from heaven to hell. The plane crash caused them to lose 75 people, including fans and family members. The team they are proud of is instantly turned into ashes, and such a blow is unbearable to anyone. In particular, some families also lost two relatives, wives and sons at the same time in this air crash! Tears can no longer carry grief, leaving people with endless darkness. The four surviving players were also immersed in the pain and unable to extricate themselves until the arrival of the new coach Jack Lange. He first recruited several other coaches and then started recruiting players everywhere. At first, they bumped into walls, until the National University Sports Association agreed to allow them to play in the new season. With this superior condition, their enrollment work can be carried out smoothly. In the following training, they overcome various difficulties and finally put the team on the right track. But the defeat in the first game caused them to be questioned from various quarters, and even the president of Marshall University was implicated. Jack Langer withstood pressure from all quarters and fully prepared for the first home game. Before the game, he took the players to the graveyard of the dead players and told them that only by winning can they bring honor to the dead companions. The team members shouted "We are Marshall!" in front of the grave. The residents of the town also gave the team the greatest support, and they all came to watch their first home game. The young players lived up to their expectations and won. This victory is heavy and significant for the players and the Marshalls, and it represents their rebirth and ideological rebirth.

Seeing the end, I cried because of the excitement and the touch. I think I can understand what this victory means to the Marshalls, so I am happy for them, comforted for them, so I cried. The tears contain too much touch and too much meaning, let the tears replace all my emotions and rush down as much as you like!

Tribute to the 75 players, coaches, fans and their families killed in the crash!

I was literally poked into tears by such a sports movie full of routines. This is not only a movie about football, but also a movie about how people get out of the shadows. This team is not famous for being invincible, but Because it represents a kind of resilience of life and a new life that is not shrouded in the shadows of the past. This has to remind me of the sudden epidemic half a year ago. As a member living in Wuhan, the epicentre of the epidemic, I really understand Huntington. The mood of the town's residents who are indulging in grief, every day with anxiety and anxiety, hope that life can return to the right track. The town of Huntington is lucky, because they met a coach like Jack who is willing to stand up and rebuild the team without fear of controversy, taking this as an opportunity to bring new life to the gray town.

We Are Marshall quotes

  • Coach Rick Tolley: Call it in, Red! Call it in!

  • Coach Rick Tolley: Fellas, you gave a good effort out there today. But let me be clear about this... A good effort is not enough! Now, I'm proud of you. But, I will not accept losing with you. Because there's only one thing they judge us on. There's only one thing people remember. And it ain't how we play the game! Winning is everything!
