The movie went on until the 14th minute when her sister Elinor leaned on the door listening to her sister Marianne playing the piano. She burst into tears and was hit by Edward, played by Hugh Grant. Li Ang gave Emma Thompson the first close-up shot. Emma is the kind of person who needs time to radiate beauty. Ang Lee knows that 14 minutes is enough to brew a kind of grace.
Elinor was sitting by the window writing a letter, and the little girl and Edward were playing swords in the garden. The kids watching the movie talked that she could be their mother. This broke Emma's heart. She said she was only one year older than Hugh. Women always look old, and they usually look for someone who is twenty years older to play with an actor, or even forty years older in some cases. "This is terrible!" she sighed.
But what does it matter whether it is beautiful or young? Gentle, generous, tolerant, and temperate, you have taken our hearts away. Because of this, Elinor's unchecked cry at the end of the film made us relieved and heartbroken.
Emma is not only an actor in the movie, she also wrote the script. That year, she won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for this film. At the award ceremony, she used Miss Austin's mouth to comment on sentient beings, wise and charming. Oscar has never been stingy with its lights, and Emma Thompson on the stage does not need to spend fourteen minutes to pave the way for her elegance.
