The movie spent the first one-third to make Hannibal look just like any other kid, and the rest two-third to rush him into his destiny. His nightmares and illusions are repeatedly presented, not in the purpose of showing his inward struggle, but to indicate that he's already who he is. The normal self was killed that tragic day, maybe right at the moment when he half-conciously ate his sister's flesh. Thanks to the playwright for carefully keep this astonishing secret till the end, or else this movie will sink even deeper into the abyss of mere violence and brutality.
When it comes to the way of torturing human lives, I don't think this movie come up with anything impressingly creative. But it certainly does well in torturing the leading actor, this cute Lector, whom has to keep a weird smile most of the time.
