Good court movie

The lead actor this time is John Cusack, although I watched it for nearly half an hour before I found out. The heroine is the sweet Rachel Weitz, the psychic girl in Constantine.

There is not much to say about the plot. I believe you can guess that the defendant will lose in the end, regardless of the reason. The biggest point of the film is the mode of operation of the entire jury in the case. Although the teacher will also mention what the Anglo-American jury chooses in class, it is not as clear as such an intuitive film (of course, I don’t know how it works. How true is it, at least procedurally.) At the beginning, I just know that it is very important for a common law lawyer to know how to select the jury members (this is also an instruction from watching a movie, "The Devil's Spokesperson":)) After watching this film, I realized that there is still such a thing as a jury consultant.

Basically, it is to see how the hero and heroine compete with the defendant’s jury consultant, how to cleverly be selected into the jury list, how to capture traces to influence the direction of the entire jury’s discussion process, and how to make others think that you have the ability to control the entire jury. The jury, etc., etc., very interesting. Thinking of those court dramas of tvb, the story itself may not be so great, but it is eye-catching when viewed in court.

It's a bit unhappy to see such a good script finally degenerate into a bloody ending. . . . The toilet scene is high enough!

At first I thought it should be a discussion on the rationality of gun ownership, but then I thought that the judicial process of the court trial should be the theme, but I didn't expect it to be a discussion about the jury system. The film offers at least the possibility that juries can be effectively and even legally manipulated. So the question is, can this system bring about fairness and justice? Especially under the judicial system of case law, will this uncertainty be magnified? Although the result of this film is "justice" under the ecological setting of the oriented plot, it does not give an answer directly. But just look across the Pacific, and the answer is pretty obvious. It is better to have the law to follow than to follow the law, because interfering with judicial justice requires at least a lot of chips and calculations, and this is precisely the possibility of a very small probability in the real world. Perhaps this is the thinking of the common law system. the compromise. The plot of the film is very ordinary, the revenge of a small-town couple against a gun manufacturer, mixed into the story of the jury guiding the direction of the verdict. But what is special about this film is that it is really novel from the perspective of the jury system, with excellent acting skills and lines, and 120 minutes does not seem procrastinating.

Runaway Jury quotes

  • Nicholas Easter: I'm Nick Easter, sir. Juror number nine

Judge Harkin: And just what do you think you're doing outside of that Juror Room, Mr Easter-Juror-Number-Nine?

  • Nicholas Easter: So, what? I'm supposed to convince you that I have them, right?

Rankin Fitch: Oh, I think you've probably got them, or-or you will have. I just wanna' know why.

    Nicholas Easter: Money.

Rankin Fitch: Safer ways for a sharp kid like you to make money. What's the real reason?

Nicholas Easter: Business, politics, sports... you tell me what *isn't* rigged? I mean, is there even such a thing as an objective jury, Mr. Fitch?

Rankin Fitch: [chuckles] Not if I can help it.

Nicholas Easter: Then why should all the lawyers and guys like you make all the profit?

Rankin Fitch: You don't have much faith in the Law!

    Nicholas Easter: I'm agnostic.

Rankin Fitch: [laughs] I knew there was something I liked about you.
