Contradiction and balance

I think The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari itself is very commercial, and the transfer is clearly done, and I dare not embarrass the audience at all. But on the other side, German expressionism is fully expressed in a dramatic style, visually challenging the audience's wisdom and senses. German expressionism was born in a contradiction between the subjective perception of romanticism and the abstract sense of detachment from modern art. This sense of contradiction is also reflected in the film. However, the director has injected many elements of traditional horror films to strike a balance between expressionism and reality. This is a film with many historical symbols. After the First World War, the distaste of power in the turbulent society was seen in the interpretation of city officials, police officers and doctors. In the end, it is unknown whether the protagonist will also be turned into a somnambulist by Dr. Caligari.
