Intertextuality in Spellbound

spellbound---hitchcock's early classics. During the viewing process, I saw many points of inspire his later works:

The echo of spellbound as a title and vertigo, one is PTSD's "trance", the other is the "vertigo" of those who fear heights;

Peck's slope, black and white track and Marnie's sensitivity to red are the scars left by childhood trauma;

The huge shadows cast by the wings can't help but think of the classic field plane chase scene in North by Northwest, the deepest and most primitive fear that Birds brought to the town people, and the huge and lifelike bird specimens in the Bates Motel in Psycho. ;

Dr Edwards was chased by proprietor and slipped from chimney because of the thrilling collision of President Hill in North by Northwest, and the heroine in Vertigo fell from the clock tower;

The dean’s perspective of self-determination with a gun at the end is Xi Pang’s accusation and questioning of Voyeur---it was a naked peep at Rear Window...

Watching the memories of the past movies bit by bit into a rather complete whole, madly gnawing Xi fat to pay off! Old tears.jpg

    As expected, Hitchcock shot super well. The last scene is unforgettable. Gregory Pike has a male protagonist's face.

    Ingrid Bergman's role as a doctor is just right. Gregor Pike is in charge of being handsome. It's so dramatic to watch the handsome man faint again and again...

Spellbound quotes

  • Constance Petersen: I'm here as your doctor only. It has nothing to do with love.

    [John kisses her and they embrace each other tightly]

    Constance Petersen: Nothing at all. Nothing at all...

  • Constance Petersen: All analysts have to be psychoanalyzed by other analysts before they start practicing.

    John Ballantine: Ahhh, that's to make sure that they're not too crazy.
