Xiaoqiang Transformation Battle

There are a total of three Mimic series so far. The first in 1997 was directed by Guillermo del Toro, a dark director who was later known as "Pan's Labyrinth". He also participated in the screenwriting; the rest was in 2001 and 2003 The two have nothing to do with Guillermo del Toro, and they should have been released directly without being shown in theaters.

Mimic's original work is derived from Donald A. Wollheim's short stories, a horror work on the topic of insect mimicry.

The background setting of the first part of the story is as follows:

An infectious disease that uses cockroaches as a transmission method occurred in New York. The victims were mostly children. A couple of biologists created a new species of cockroaches called "Judah", in its own way, instead of its own body, let them spread diseases among the cockroaches.

Two years later, although the infectious disease was contained, people discovered in the subway tunnel that Judas had evolved into a giant cockroach, and evolved a mimicry similar to a human face, which looked like a wrap when standing up. Mysterious guest in a black trench coat. They began to hunt humans.

I think that at this point, it is very suitable to turn Mimic into a "secret guest". It is not only similar in transliteration, but also a vivid summary of the strange image of Xiaoqiang in the play.

The climax of the first story is the process of the couple of biologists escaping the subway tunnel.

The stunt designed by Tyler Ben Ellinson, the visual effect of "Jurassic Park", emphasizes the strong contrast of black and white, creating a ghastly atmosphere. This atmosphere makes people unconsciously think of "Dark City" (Dark City) directed by Alex Proyas. The reason is unclear. Alex Proyas and Guillermo del Toro are both dark directors, but the former is a little bit Noir, and the latter is biased. Gothic a bit; if you think of the subway and monsters alone, it is reminiscent of Roland Emmerich's "Godzilla" (Godzilla), which ended in bombing of the subway. Of course, Xiaoqiang in the two shows is almost two-dimensional. Extreme.

The second part of the story mainly tells the story of a Judas cockroach man who fell in love with a human woman and constantly killed the man close to the woman and mimicked the face of the man who was killed.

That's right, Xiaoqiang Judas in the second part has evolved further. The facial mimicry of the Judas Cockroach in the first part is just a bit like a human face, or a mask is more precise, and cannot be changed, but now they can change their faces as they like.

This is clearly mentioned in the first part, saying that there is only one male in the large group of winged Xiaoqiang, and the male does not have wings; so when a big winged cockroach in the second part falls in love When I was a woman, I was stunned for a moment, and thought, could it be that this is just a lace edge Xiaoqiang.

I checked it later and found that in the first part, the statement that "the male does not have wings" does not seem to be widely representative, but the system of monogamous wives is well-founded. I found these two explanations:

male cockroaches are generally thin and slender, while female cockroaches are thick and wide; in a few species, male cockroaches have well-developed wings and extend to the end, but female cockroaches only cover their wings. The front half of the abdomen, or wingless.

Male worms can mate many times in their lifetime, but female worms only mate once or twice, and one mate can make it finally produce fertilized eggs.

So in reality, it is not that Gong Xiaoqiang must not have wings, which makes the second part not so ridiculous.

Among them, the mating method of Xiaoqiang is that the male Xiaoqiang directly pierces the female Xiaoqiang with a sharp reproductive force like a sickle. It was also mentioned that if you do not get hurt, it is pure luck; of course, it is also said that the Xiaoqiangs can live for nine days in different parts of their heads, and in the end they died of starvation. In addition, some Xiaoqiang can also reproduce asexually, that is, some mother Xiaoqiang does not have to suffer from the sickle.

Judas is strongly seduced by women, maybe just because of hormonal stimulation. It seems that among different species of mammals, there are often examples of abnormal love due to hormonal deception. In the first part, Xiaoqiang evolved lungs, which means that Judas is actually a chimera of mammals and insects. Xiaoqiang in the story was finally cut off by the female pig's scissors.

When the story progressed to the police being involved in an investigation, the film became a detective horror film-but this classification is just my wishful thinking, in fact, there is no such clear theme, because the protagonist is Xiaoqiang, and the main story It happens in places like subway tunnels and sewers, so of course you can’t shoot the grandeur like "Gozilla" or "Starship Troopers", but I wonder if the theme is clearer, such as with The detective film with a bit of Noir taste is the main theme, and there is more suspense, then this sequel will not be as "stingy" as it is now, but will be more "personal" and "spiritual". The "personality" and "spirituality" of this concept are shown in the third book.

The protagonist of the third part of the story is a kid who survived the illness ten years later.

Because of the weak immunity, he squatted at home around the clock, and developed the habit of shooting wildly at the main road outside and the apartment on the opposite side with a camera at the window. So I found a suspicious garbage collector who fell in love with a beautiful neighbor. When a few Judas cockroaches that ran out of the sewer began to kill, the bubble man couldn't go outside the house...

Although I said the third one. There are "personality" and "spirituality", but they are too "human". It can be said that the setting is copied from "Bubble Boy", and the story is copied from "Rear Window". This makes it very embarrassing.

The role of the story is set with a lot of cliché formulaic Facebook. A family of three, the brother and sister are quite neurotic. The younger sister and the drug dealer Xiao Hei have a leg-Xiao Hei and younger sister were later killed by Xiao Qiang. The younger sister and the neighbor are still friends. And introduced it to her brother; the brothers and sisters thought they had witnessed the murder and reported to the police. The policeman who came to investigate was hooked up by their long-lost mother, and the brothers and sisters called the police improperly-finally the police Both and his mother were killed by Xiaoqiang; the key figure who led out Judas, the trash man, turned out to be a lunatic biologist-and was still killed by Xiaoqiang... The final story is to blow up the oxygen that the bubble man holds all day. Jar, Bubble Man survived hiding in the refrigerator and ended up.

PS.Mimic's story system is different from the CUBE series, which is more conspiracy, and the SAW series, which is more conspiracy, but it is still snowballing.

Finally, let me mention the original author of Mimic Donald Wollheim (Donald A. Wollheim, 1914.10.01 ~ 1990.12.02).

First, as a member of the Futurians (left-leaning science fiction creation group), Wollheim is an extremely influential science fiction fan. At the same time, he is also a short story writer and an editor (from 1957 to 1971, he has been working as an editor for "Ace") , A publisher (founded "Daw Books" in 1971).

In 1975, he won the Hugo Special Award for the novel "the fan who has done everything" ("the fan who has done everything"). The long-length novel winner in the same year was Ursula K. Le Guin's utopian masterpiece "The Dispossessed" (The Dispossessed).

In 1981, he was awarded the SPECIAL AWARD, PROFESSIONAL: for DAW.

In 1986, he won the SPECIAL CONVENTION AWARD (SPECIAL CONVENTION AWARD).

In addition, Donald A. Wollheim was also a judge of the World Fantasy Awards held in London, England in 1988; two years later, in 1990, he died of a heart attack in New York.

In 2002, Donald A. Wollheim was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame (SF Hall of Fame, established in 1996 by the Kansas Sci-Fi Fantasy Association and the University of Kansas Science Fiction Research Center, four people are selected each year: two alive and two dead).
