The three people most affected by the accident, Beka, Howie, and the boy driving, apart from these three, everyone else, regardless of friends or sisters, cannot be comforted even if the mother also experienced the pain of losing a child.
Husband Howe wants to try to return to a normal life. Such a speed is positive but cruel to Becca. She is not that strong and she can't keep up.
So she chose the boy who drove, because he was the only one who was still willing to talk to her about her son, even if it was just a description of the accident. And face her direct and sincere expression of guilt, face her pain and tears.
I think that unless it is a very loving couple, it is difficult to spend this together, because this kind of thing hurts both parties too much, so big that you can't help hating each other, but because of love, you can't blame it. For each other, an outlet must be needed to express their emotions. Only a couple who really loves each other are willing to find that outlet together.
The salvation of this movie, for me, is the dialogue between Becca and his mother in the storage room:
"Beca: "Will it pass?" "
Mother: "What? "
Beca: "This kind of pain. "
Mother: "No, I don't think so. At least not for me... Eleven years. But it has changed. "
Beca: "How to change?" "
Mother: "I don't know... it's probably its weight. At some point, it will become bearable.
It becomes...you can crawl out of its weight and carry it with you, like a brick in a pocket. Sometimes, you even forget its existence. But you can find it anytime, it's there.
Oh yes, that's it... It feels bad, but it won't be the same.
This is the kind...Of course you won't like it...but that's what replaces your son...so you will take it with you wherever you go...and it won't leave.
Actually...
Becca: "Actually how?"
Mother: "Actually not bad""
