Spider's nest city

"No samurai doesn't want to be the lord of the city." This sentence is very interesting, "No man does not steal fishy", "No great power can rise without violence." This kind of words seems to be an objective law, but in fact people are providing a seemingly objective self-fulfilling justification for their next actions.

Then, is the tree movement really just a coincidence? It's probably just a combination of inside and outside. Jiujin's lord murdered the first king, and Jiujin murdered the lord, and finally he was killed by his men. In the bloody cycle again and again, justice has long been missing.

What happened to Spider's Nest? The son of Qianjun, Shaojun and Miki each have a ghost. Qianjun was originally the rival of the latter two, and Miki had previously refused Shaojun to enter the city. If it hadn't been for Jiujin to give up the pursuit, the latter would probably be killed first. After Jiujin, the thick fog of Spider's Nest City still won't dissipate. What we saw was just a short episode.

PS It is said that male spiders are often eaten by females when they mate, and the first prey of small spiders' long predatory life is their mother.

Seven years later, I saw it again, except that I remembered it was adapted from "Macbeth", and I didn't see it as a new film at all. Although the fate of Mifune's rapid suicide after killing the protagonist came directly from the provocation of the two women (the witch and the wife), "the unchanging human desire is the root of all troubles", and this work is highly focused on Mifune in the Desire gradually collapsed, and finally insane (dying with arrows symbolizes his death from a chaotic mind). Akira Kurosawa's use of natural imagery is close to the realm. The hut in the misty forest is full of ghosts, the wind is howling in the spider nest city, and the wind and rain in the spider forest is even more chilling. He uses the abnormal behavior of animals to express the bad omens (galloping horses/flocks of birds), which makes the story even more eerie and terrifying. And the siege scene in the ending "Spider Forest Approaching Spider Nest City" pushes the story to the climax of the drama. Several scenes and performances have borrowed the form of Noh drama, and they are full of classical feeling: especially the assassination of the city lord by Mifune, the camera is aimed at the wife who is pacing back and forth in the room with the drum beat, without saying a word but full of tension, the master handwriting.

This may be my personal favorite Akira Kurosawa movie, and it may also be my favorite scene in the Japanese Warring States games. Atmosphere borrowed from the treasure house From Onimusha to Nioh, from Ninja Dragon to Sekiro, it can be seen everywhere in fantasy or exaggerated. The city can see the shadow of this movie

Throne of Blood quotes

  • Taketori Washizu: I am terribly drunk...

  • Old Ghost Woman: [singing] Men are vain and death is long, And pride dies first within the grave, For hair and nails are growing still, When face and fame are gone, Nothing in this world will save, Or measure up man's actions here, Nor in the next - for there is none, This life must end in fear, Only evil may maintain, An afterlife for those who will, Who love this world - who have no son, To whom ambition calls, Even so - this false fame falls, Death will reign - man dies in vain.
