Seven years later, I saw it again, except that I remembered it was adapted from "Macbeth", and I didn't see it as a new film at all. Akira Kurosawa's use of natural imagery is close to the realm. And the siege scene in the ending "Spider Forest Approaching Spider Nest City" pushes the story to the climax of the drama. Several scenes and performances have borrowed the form of Noh drama, and they are full of classical feeling: especially the assassination of the city lord by Mifune, the camera is aimed at the wife who is pacing back and forth in the room with the drum beat, without saying a word but full of tension, the master handwriting.
