Accompanied by the singing of the choir, "Ordinary People" (Ordinary People) showed a peaceful life scene at the beginning. The sea, the sycamore trees, the flying birds, the tree-lined paths, and the sunlight, as the angle of view is drawn back, the colors gradually become brighter. Afterwards, there was not a trace of the middle-class life unfolding before us: a mother whose everything seemed very busy, a father whose personality was slightly weak, and a son who was confused and restless. There seems to be a kind of mystery under the early calm, which makes one wonder: What happened to this named Conrad? He killed his brother? The plot continues to develop downwards, we know that Conrad's brother drowned and Conrad deeply blames himself. However, with the intervention of the psychiatrist, Conrad and his father were relieved, and the girl Jeannine Conrad met added vitality to Conrad's life. The suicide of Karen-supposedly the Conrad brothers' ex-girlfriend-made Conrad completely let go, causing his father to want to end this state and hope the whole family can talk frankly. But because Conrad's mother refused, the conflict intensified and reached a climax. In the process, both Conrad and his father did something. There were several warm scenes, but none of them lasted. In the end, Conrad's mother left home and Conrad and his father were happy.
The film has Zhang Youchi, and the rhythm is well grasped. Just like its title, there is no grandeur, no passion, but ordinary life: plain, quarreling, reconciliation; lost, but recovered in another place; death, but life continues.
