Judicial and religious criticism were originally very "weighty" themes, but in Russia, these are the leftovers of Tolstoy's "Resurrection". As for the dark days of the bureaucracy, especially the "small places", Herzen, who has been a grassroots civil servant in other provinces for three years, has basically finished writing in "My Past and Thoughts". In an eagerness for a breakthrough, the film began to fall into symbolic blending: someone’s portrait was shiningly on the office wall, and the "predecessors" who appeared inexplicably at the barbecue party, three female judges read it out mechanically like the three goddesses of destiny. The verdict, "God belongs to the rich" at the end of the film is so stiff that it can't bear to look straight...Of course, there is also the whale skeleton referred to as "Leviathan". This is too ugly compared with the mellow and unobtrusive metaphor in "Return".
Compared with the lawyer's naivety and the mayor's boss face, the former is more disturbing. A person who is in Moscow shouldn't really want to put the other party down as simple as using some black material, let alone be beaten and intimidated, and there is no more text-what if he publishes those materials? The only reasonable explanation is that he has no power to manipulate the media at all. This is just a "imperial minister" bluff. His arrival and "help" were meant to "repay" his friend's wife from the very beginning (the film began to imply that there was already some tacit understanding between him and this woman whose life was oppressive). It is not clearly stated in the film whether the male lead was released from prison because of his negotiations or the traffic police.
Relatively speaking, although the mayor’s "evil" looks like a facial makeup, it is very real when you think about it carefully. The earth emperor in a remote town cannot think of a metaphysical dark philosophy like a clown, or talk endlessly about the dialectics of evil and human nature. All they can show is this straightforward greed and arrogance. In reality, it is precisely this lowest level of evil that causes the greatest harm to the powerless every day, and there is no way to ask for it. This cannot but make people feel the emptiness of social order-even "elections" cannot be binding on this. Those who believe in "winner takes all" can blaze a path to higher positions in any environment. Give the priests a slice of the pie, and you can buy a religious psychological counseling to calm the little panic.

Countless silent and odorless little people, after being frightened and insulted by power, can only turn to God and alcohol. And God was hijacked by the church and became a talisman of power. Both the decent and the villain are open and indulgent in the burning drunkenness, and then lose their minds in a dazed state, destroying themselves or others. The destiny of this fighting race seems to be the wasteful consumption of its originally powerful strength and wisdom in this chaos and desolation, struggling for centuries, and there is still no end.
