I rarely have the opportunity to come into contact with the British thriller. Searching for the memory fragments in the brain is all the fixed routines of the American Emperor (Hollywood), which is tiresome. This time, the appearance of "Deep Sea Escape" just changed the author's taste and experienced the thrilling masterpiece of England.
Briefly, enter the comment.
I, ocean + shark + escape!
From last year's American version of "The Shallows" to this year's British-style "47 Meters Down", "Blue Sea and Blue Sky" + "Ferocious Shark" + "Fragrant Beauty", the three mix and match, has become the new vane of such works. More and more directors have abandoned the outdated concept of "blindly show off and set off horror scenes" and adopted a new combination of "beautiful images combined with hidden horror" to cater to audiences with increasingly critical tastes.
II, the British perspective
Is there any difference between American films and British films? Have! And it's very obvious. Americans like to open and close, and they are keen to render scenes. They often portray characters and details in thick lines. In contrast, the British are just the opposite! The scene of the work is not too big, but the plotting of the plot and the portrayal of the characters are absolutely meticulous and fascinating.
Take this film as an example. If you follow the American director's thinking, the plot must be centered on "Human Shark Battle", with all the special effects, and finally the theme of "American Heroism" sublimated, and the ending!
But when I changed to an Englishman, my thinking completely changed. Director Johannes Roberts' focus has shifted from "human-shark battle" to "inner warfare" (reducing special effects bonuses and increasing characterization). How to overcome fear? How to face the crisis? How to calmly challenge? These inner struggles and the switching between many complex emotions are far more exciting than the bloody confrontation between humans and sharks.
III, a few unforgettable scenes
There are several very contrasting scenes in the film, which are worthy of the audience's patience and careful consideration.
1. "Blue sky and white clouds" and "dark seabed"
The opening ten minutes of the film is really fascinating, the blue sky, white clouds, blue sea, sands, handsome men, and beautiful women are so beautiful!
But then the style of painting changed immediately. A falling into a deep-sea shark cage, two trapped women, a group of hungry sharks, a gloomy, gloomy underwater world, extremely dark!
The two extremely contrasting images gave the audience a huge shock, and the film's horror texture gradually revealed.
2. "Kate's Confidence" and "Kate's Death"
Why did Lisa and Kate participate in deep sea diving? Because Kate casually accepted the invitation of a local stranger (and ignored the friendly reminder of the hotel), and felt that "deep sea diving" was completely safe, why not try it? The results of it? Due to a mechanical failure, Lisa and Kate fell into the deep sea along with the shark cage! Blind self-confidence put Kate on the road of no return.
How did Kate die? Just one shot "was directly swallowed by a shark!" When she retrieved the rescue equipment from the seabed and tried to return to the shark cage again, the shark appeared and ended up killing her.
From "full of confidence" to "horse stumbled", from birth to death, this is fragile life, fleeting.
3. "Lisa's Illusion" and "Cruel Reality"
① Illusion.
Lisa in a nitrogen drunk state had hallucinations. In the illusion, she and Kate tried their best to save themselves and escaped.
②Reality.
Lisa gradually regained consciousness and saw her reality (still trapped in the cage), but fortunately, the rescue team appeared in time and rescued her from the water. End of the play!
In the final stage of the film, the director arranged two "unexpected and reasonable" reversals. While increasing the suspense and highlights of the work, it also allows the audience to see the gap between "reality" and "dream"!
In the illusion, "the two succeeded in self-rescue" -> in reality "Lisa was trapped and Kate died" -> in reality "Lisa was rescued alone"
Write at the end. "47 Meters Down" is a typical British thriller! The structure and concept of the work are very unique, but limited by the performance of the actors and the weakness of the special effects, it is difficult to become a climate in the end!
Director ★★★☆☆ (British's unique thinking mode, the plot is pushed out, and the characterization is more delicate)
Actors ★☆☆☆☆ (The acting skills of the two protagonists are relatively average, somewhat deliberate, and the performance traces are obvious)
Plot ★★★★☆ (The idea is good; the plot is very innovative; part of the logic of the bridge is to be discussed)
Visual effects ★★★★☆ (beautiful scenery, poor special effects, the overall rating is acceptable)
Sound effect ★☆☆☆☆ (more general, lack of coordination with the screen)
Recommendation ★★★☆☆ (not a special effects blockbuster, but a psychological blockbuster, just take a look during the holidays)
