The hidden murderer is like a hideous devil full of religious colors. Through the bloody and alarming slides, the salvaged female corpses, at the end of the maze-like winding river, every turn seems Will encounter the unspeakable horror. Nicolas Roeg deliberately obscures the source of the film’s sense of crisis. Is it a fable of gods and ghosts, revenge by evil spirits, or a murder by another plot? The mystery is hidden in the dark fog that permeates at night. There are ubiquitous killing intents, foreshadowings planted by prophecies, and the secrets contained in the restoration of the church. It swings, but leaves no trace, leaving a faint light. The hint, let the audience search for the answer in the dark night.
The unique narrative technique, the hints that stop at the click, and the few bloody scenes make the whole movie more like a literary and artistic film full of suspense. Many seemingly out of place plots are stacked together to form a peculiar attraction. And when the truth comes to light at the end, the previous hints slowly revealed their intentions. The scene of intense sex between the hero and the heroine is quite interesting. On one side is the intense sweating and passionate struggle, and on the other side is the scene of looking at each other after the rain, aftertaste, and tacitly preparing for the whole outfit. The editing of deliberately out of order makes the audience fall into the clouds. In fact, it is euphemistically revealing the future foreseen by the actor. All the light and glimpses are just unclear clues in my mind. Blood and ghosts cannot avoid the death knife. The journey is over, behind the infinite scenery of Venice, It's the horror of the dark night.
