Life is a river

At the beginning of the film, two of the three little boys watched one get into the car, and the one who got in the car escaped after being molested for four days. The following story starts after the three children have become old men, and then slowly fills in the life trajectory of the three of them (in fact, it is mainly Jimmy). In the process of telling, this incident was repeatedly mentioned as a child. .

For the first time after Jimmy knew of his daughter’s death, he told Sean that he felt that sometimes small things could change a person’s life. If he got in that car, he would be as mudd as Dave, and he didn’t have the courage to chase his first job. My wife will not give birth to this daughter, and this daughter will not die.

Later in the plot involving Dave, Dave mentioned that the incident changed his life many times.

The last time this matter was mentioned was by the police officer Sean. At that time, Jimmy’s entire life trajectory had been shown in front of the audience. Sean also knew that Jimmy had killed Dave by mistake, and Jimmy once again took out the incident when he was a child and said that Dave was actually already Died, trying to escape his sins. At this time, Dave said the most important thing in the whole film. He said that he thought all three of them should get on that car, so that all of them now is just a dream, and the real reality is that all three of them are still An 11-year-old boy, staying in a cellar, imagined what life would be like if we had the courage to escape.

This is a very cryptic but ironic statement. The reality is cruel. You want to escape from reality, so you take out one thing in the past and imagine that your life will be different, just like the little man in the cellar who didn’t have the courage to escape. The same as a child.

Life is indeed a river, and many choices in life will mysteriously converge to change the direction of life, but Jimmy's river does not turn around that car. Jimmy started doing some robberies with his companions at about 19 years old. Later, he was in jail for two years because of Ray’s informant. During this period, his first wife died of cancer and accompanied his wife through the final moments of death. It was Ray. After Jimmy was released from prison, although he thanked Ray for what he did for his wife, he still killed Ray. My daughter and his wife didn’t know about this. My daughter thought the father was disgusted with Ray’s son and did not dare to speak up about his father’s feelings. In fact, Jimmy was not disgusted with the kid, but the kid would remind him of his sin, which is a violation. He defines himself as a good person. He was actually disgusting himself. The daughter knew she could not get his father’s permission and planned to escape with Ray’s son. The first night she said goodbye to her friends, and went home late. This is tributary one; the Ray’s family had no father and led to the development of abnormal relationships between the brothers. It is the second branch. Jimmy's river of life eventually flows to his daughter's death not because he didn't get in the car, but because of his own sinful choice.

Perhaps Jimmy understood a little bit about Sean's words, and he said maybe you were right. Sean then apologized to his wife on the phone. In fact, Sean has always understood that his wife is calling to hear him apologize, and he can reconcile as long as he apologizes (Morpheus knows it). The conversation with Jimmy seemed to wake him up. If he doesn't do it now, where will his river flow in a few years? Isn't he a little boy who dare not escape the cellar like Jimmy?

The river of life is very mysterious, but the most useless thing is to cry over some things that have been done or not done in the past. The most important thing is to make a good choice now. I think that after Sean’s phone call, the story of the movie has been finished. , The director’s intentions have also been fully shown to the audience.

Afterwards, the director showed us the destruction of Jimmy with unfulfilled intentions. Jimmy has always been a person of love and hatred. Although he has been evading his own sins, the evasion at least shows his aversion to his sins. At the end of the film, his second wife said that he did the right thing. Although he killed someone who shouldn't be killed, he did it for his love for his daughter, so it was right. If everyone else in this town is weak, they will become the ruler. What kind of bastard logic is this...a parade, with spectators on both sides, one side is the perpetrator who confesses innocence, and the other is the painful and helpless victim. Sean wanted to shoot Jimmy, but he didn't have the ability. Jimmy spread his hands and looked innocent. The only remaining humanity who was disturbed by his sins was completely gone.

Or if he didn't go to jail for being a gangster, his first wife wouldn't get cancer, and he wouldn't marry this poisonous snake? maybe. Anyway, the river of Jimmy has gone with no return.

Let’s talk about dave briefly at the dividing line:

In fact, dave and sean are just clue characters, and the story of Jimmy is still to be told. But dave does have something to do with the theme. The fate of his manslaughter began with his distrust of his wife, and it was too late to confess everything to his wife when he was dying.

Another dividing line to talk about the loyalty of couples:

I don’t think this is what the director mainly wants to discuss, although all three of them involve couples Question, but Jimmy's killing of Ray is actually the original sin of Jimmy that the director struggled to talk about. It's just that for ordinary people like us, how to deal with the relationship between husband and wife is probably the issue that can most affect the direction of our lives:)
