Unsatisfied ambition

Martin Scorsese apparently took the film as an epic to shoot, trying to enrich its meaning and connotation with a wide range of aspects in order to push it to the expected height. I had the same expectations at first, but I was unavoidably disappointed in the end.

Revenge, love, gang struggles, conflicts between the rich and the poor, conflicts between old and new immigrants, rudimentary and corrupted democracy, the Civil War, racial discrimination, the formation of American self-identity, etc., Laos tried them one by one, but the result was one I didn't explain it thoroughly.

In contrast, a documentary of the same name produced by the Discovery channel in the DVD's extravaganza is quite valuable, containing so many topics that the film itself has not talked about. Scorsese eventually made a magnificent and sprawling high-cost blockbuster, at least for this film alone, his skill failed to satisfy his ambitions.

Xiao Li's works during the transition period began to cooperate endlessly with Martin + Chongao. . Because I was in New York, I felt a sense of scene at the end. The history of New York is reproduced in the form of gangster movies, but the story is a little scattered (it is always the case...), but Dan Dai Liu + Xiao Li are both good, all big names. . The chopper parties are really cruel. The ending song is nice

After reading Linda’s book describing the American Civil War and the Black Liberation Movement, I felt a little bit about the description of this film. I found that Linda’s description was still too positive. The society at that time must have been extremely turbulent, just like this movie portrayed Same. But the first half of the film was really brilliant, but the more it became more incomprehensible later, it’s a pity

Gangs of New York quotes

  • Bill: Now that you've had a taste of my mutton, how do you like it?

  • Jenny: [after running into Johnny] Look where you are going, Johnny!

    [notices Amsterdam]

Jenny: You look stunned and poorly, sir.

[both of the men are silent and nervous]

Jenny: [sarcastic] Quite a pair of conversationists, aren't you.

Amsterdam Vallon: Maybe not. We're deep thinkers.

Jenny: [chuckles] Well then. Gentlemen, I leave you in the grace and favour of the Lord.

    [walks off]
