Carpenter movies are always full of suspense. Characters are always mysterious. The progress of the story is like a riddle.
The filmmaker now is like a person who talks very boringly. This person chatted with you a story. Listening to him, you are not interested at all. See if you are not interested, he will give you special effects. Special effects cover up the boring story. It's like chatting with others about your own story, and when you see that others are about to fall asleep, you brag and exaggerate the plot of the story.
Now people like to watch those exaggerated movies. I would rather have some original stories. There is enough suspense in the filming process. Let the audience guess what will happen next. I think this kind of movie is more interesting.
