What an enjoyable movie-watching experience! The director's personal life memories are calmly, introduced, implicitly and lyrically expressed, sincere, simple and delicate.
I remember 29 years ago, in 1990, when I took "Bembang Year" to participate in the 40th Berlin International Film Festival, I saw the Spanish director Almodovar's participating film "Tie Me, Tie Me!" for the first time! "Although he did not win the prize, his unique, hot content and style impressed me deeply. At the Hong Kong Festival a month later, I saw for the first time Iranian director Abbas’s "Where is my friend’s house", Polish Kislovsky’s "Ten Commandments"’s "Love Short Film" and The Murder Short Film, and the British director Greenaway's "Chef, Robber, His Wife and Her Lover", are really amazing! In addition, Almodovar, these four directors who are basically the same age as me, were called "a new generation of author directors at the end of the century" by the world film circle at that time!
Twenty-nine years have passed, and this prediction has long been confirmed. Although the two elder masters of Poland and Iran have passed away, the many masterpieces they have dedicated to the audience have long become classics that will be missed by fans all over the world. The other two living masters also continue to speak with outstanding works. The film "Pain and Glory" is the 22nd feature film of Almodovar, who is 70 years old. It won the Best Actor Award at Cannes last year. Although it lost to the Korean film "Parasite", it still shines.
How do they maintain such a long-term level of artistic creativity and quality? This should be a very good question for our film research and education circles.
