you again

When I watched this film, I also thought that the filming method of this film was a bit non-mainstream. As a result, the name of the current director was over until it was discovered that it was Gus Van Sant again. This man is really an artist.

Gus Van Sant seems to have watched four films so far. Technically my favorite is "Elephant", and my favorite in terms of connotation is probably this one. Although everyone has watched "Mind Catcher", I watched it too early, and the level of appreciation has not yet been developed. This film feels quite cruel, although his style is all whispering. Perhaps it is because of Scott’s ruthlessness, Mike’s innocence, the misery of the bottom of society, and the shocking love for my mother, love for the same sex, love for friends that I have been able to experience in a shallow way. I think this film is more fulfilling than his other recent works. Although his story is very fragmentary, the plot is not strong, and it meets the standards of boring movies.

Technically, I think Pioneer is like this: 1). When the characters talk to themselves in the play, sometimes it is obvious that a series of self-talking, the words are very elegant, the tone is also very flat, just like reading an article aloud. But this kind of reading is not isolated as a narration, but the fact is to answer the other party's words. This kind of inconsistency made me a little uncomfortable at first, but later I felt that at least he could come up with this set of things. 2). The scene of making love imitates the photo being still-in fact it is not the photo, but the actor deliberately not moving. Although this trick is new, it is not the first. It was used in Dusan Hanak's "Old World Group Portrait" in 1972. 3). Looks like interviews in the coffee shop let others narrate their own experiences. If you have to tell the story’s continuity, this kind of interspersed characters and narration is a bit inexplicable, but I think he blends well, so that these parts are a bit like a roadside scenery showing some background style-the director usually uses the scenery as an endorsement. , And he used language to represent scenery, which I find very interesting. Of course, this may be my own thinking too much. 4). Gus Van Sant seems to like to shoot the sky very much. The sky in "Elephant" can almost replace the entire plot. The sky he photographed is also beautiful. I have always wondered how he handled those images that made the clouds so low. Of course this is not avant-garde, I just like it very much.

  • Scott Favor: Getting away from everything feels good.

    Mike Waters: Yeah, it does.

Scott Favor: When I left home, the maid asked me where I was off to. I said "Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day."

Mike Waters: You had a maid. If I had a normal family, and a good up-bringing, then I would have been a well-adjusted person.

Scott Favor: It depends on what you call normal.

Mike Waters: Yeah, it does. Well, you know. Normal. Like a mom and a dad and a dog, and shit like that. Normal. Normal.

Scott Favor: So, you didn't have a normal dog?

Mike Waters: No, I didn't have a dog.

Scott Favor: Didn't... or... didn't have a normal dad?

Mike Waters: Didn't have a dog or a normal dad anyway, yeah. That's alright. I don't feel sorry for myself. I mean, I feel like I'm... I feel like I'm... you know... well-adjusted.

  • Mike Waters: This is a nice home. Do you live here?... I don't blame you.
