"Death Experiment"-the cause of collective violence

While our ideological machinery is still hype about the simplification of guiding ideology and how great XX is, Western society’s reflection on dictatorship has reached a considerable height. This makes most of the sober Chinese feel ashamed.

China also has a nationwide madness-Wenge similar to Nazi Germany, but the conclusion of most people is: "Chairman Mao was deceived." Very few ordinary perpetrators of the time had reflected on their actions. Of course, if you want to reflect on collectively, too. Can't do it.

Therefore, in China, collective violence similar to Wenger may break out at any time. When conditions are ripe, everyone can become a guardian in "Death Experiment". I am not alarmist.

I experienced a similar group of violence in my freshman year of college.

There are many girls in our class. Most of the girls don’t like physical education. They are all sweaty and have trouble changing clothes and bathing. So someone encouraged a collective strike against physical education. It was originally an instigation. "Leader" is similar to the guard leader in "Death Experiment". He is a boy in the same dormitory with me. After his speech, he really managed to achieve that there were more than 30 people in the class not attending the playground.

But some people still dissatisfied him, and I still insisted on taking physical education class with the other four. The strike leader warned us not to go, and advertised that the five of us in class would cause the remaining 30 people to be absent from class and thus risk retaking. We should focus on the collective.

But we went anyway. When we returned to the classroom after class, an amazing scene happened: the remaining 30 people who hadn't attended class sat neatly in the classroom waiting for us. The terrible thing was-the names of the five of us were written on the blackboard. . A criticism meeting is ready.

Those beautiful and gentle girls who are usually warriors turned into warriors and asked us to explain them loudly. One of us was about to rush to the blackboard to erase the name, but was stopped by our classmates and almost broke out in physical conflict. I was still a good husband at the time, and went up to explain to everyone that it should be free not to attend physical education class, but it was strongly opposed by more than 30 classmates who went on strike. There is one reason: our classes will cause them to be absent, credits will be deducted, and scholarship opportunities will be lost. The students of 1999 value the scholarship very much.

Seeing the unfamiliar classmates in front of me, I felt a strange feeling. I felt that they were no different from the Red Guards back then, and felt extremely frightened.

The matter was calmed down by the school after half a day. In just half a day, humble people can quickly become leaders and dictators because of this, and gain the right to speak and leadership positions never before; in just half a day, students who have no connection or unity can become united abusers. How is this different from Germany during the Nazi era?

I have encountered such similar experiences many times. Most people dismiss such trivial matters. Chinese psychologists will only let people draw pictures and say a few useless terms to bluff people. Few people have thoroughly studied the violent genes of the Chinese people or their hearts.

Dictatorship and violence exist everywhere around us, but most of us are used to it, just like the so-called "institutionalization" in "Shawshank's Salvation."

To oppose dictatorship, oppose tyrants, and avoid repeating the tragedy of the Cultural Revolution, one cannot rely on the lust of intellectuals, let alone the awakening and gifts of officials. Every ordinary person is required to be vigilant and resist the dictatorship.

As the protagonist in "Death Experiment" thought: We are more advanced than monkeys after all, because we know to resist. Understand that we are human beings, not guinea pigs in a big cage, and understand that we are not prisoners who cannot recover. All forms of resistance from the people are our way out.

The Experiment quotes

  • Nix: Expert in the penitentiary system, are you boy?

Travis: I just watch a lot of Discovery Channel.

  • Archaleta: Justice is what keeps us safe as a society. Ordered law.

Travis: Justice is what starts wars. And eye for and eye for an eye. It takes a turning of the cheek for this species to evolve.

Archaleta: Ah, so you're the one who knows what it's going to take for this society to evolve.

Travis: I'm just regurgitating what people have been saying for a long time.
