The film tells the story of a Hollywood screenwriter Peter being investigated by the US federal government for joining a Communist club during his college years. His movie was banned and abandoned by his girlfriend at the same time. When both career and love suffered a fatal blow, he drank and drove to escape from reality and did not want to have a car accident. Peter did not die and drifted to a strange town. When he was discovered by the people in the town, he had lost his memory and had forgotten his identity. Peter was taken to the small town, where dozens of young people died in the Second World War, and the small town was suddenly revived because of his coming. Because Peter looked exactly like Luca, the battle hero who had been missing for 9 years, and was regarded by everyone as Luca. The whole town believed that Luca had returned to them, and everyone in the town cheered and welcomed Luca home. Peter, with amnesia, had to accept this identity, and with the help of his girlfriend, he looked for the lost memory. One day, Peter found his memory because of his own movie shown in his theater. Knowing that he was not Luca, he told his girlfriend this reality. Unexpectedly, his girlfriend knew that he didn't talk about Luca, but was willing to believe that Luca was still alive. Many people in small towns also doubted Luca's identity, after all, there are many details that are not right. But everyone is happy to accept that he is the lost and recovered Luca.
The federal government found Peter and wanted to take him to court. Peter could have read the false testimony in court for his escape, but thought of the sacrifices of Luca and other soldiers, he bravely told the facts and vigorously stated the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution in front of judges, reporters, and live television. The law issued a challenge. Peter won.
Peter, who was acquitted, returned to the town. This time everyone greeted Peter's return like a battle hero. Peter ran the theater left by Luca's father and lived Luca's film life.
