British veteran and respected actor Bill Nighy plays an old miner who has hidden his homosexuality for many years in this film. In an interview in France, he said: 1984 was an important moment in the history of homosexuality, including the emergence of AIDS. When he was a child, homosexuality was considered a crime and could be sentenced to 7 years in prison. Homosexuality is also considered to be a terrible disease that requires electroshock therapy to treat it. Now, he can witness the marriage of two gay men on the streets of London. He is proud of the improvement in the British perception of homosexuality, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
After watching this film, I think that 30 years later, even in a free and open country like France, there are still continuous demonstrations against the rationalization of gay marriage. You know, this world is beautiful because of many differences. I remembered a sentence in the film: "Life is short, so be proud of yourself." Be brave to love and be yourself!
