Snobbish but attractive

This movie was directed in 1935 by Alfred Hitchcock who was the best director of the history of horror movies.

The "thirty nine steps" talks about "a wrong man" who was hunted down for knowing the information, but actually he knew just little. The story is only over an hour, but it is very compact, with more than a dozen scenes linked together. In the end of the film, Mr. Memory died of talking about the spy organization of thirty nine steps, followed by the role act asked him about the intelligence, which i didn't know whether it's a joke of Hitchcock.

Actually, I am not satisfied of this film because it didn't talk about how the mysterious woman died, why Mr. Memory would told the intellgence to the spy organization.( now I think i know why). The plot between role man and role woman fell into the cliche, but i like it.....

So strenge it is that director didn't appeard in this film, but it doesn't matter, I still love this butterball!!!!

The essence of human beings is a repeater; the key to "39 Steps" is "The Man Who Knew Too Much".

Robert Donat is handsome enough, and when he is smirked with Madeleine Carroll, he looks very seductive. The 39 steps seem to be hitchcock’s sphinx again, with a slight surprise at the end, the plot is very compact

The 39 Steps quotes

  • Richard Hannay: I ask your candidate and all those who love their fellowmen to set themselves resolutely to make this world a happier place to live in. A world where no nation plots against nation, where no neighbor plots against neighbor, where there is no persecution or hunting down, where everybody gets a square deal, and a sporting chance, and where people try to help and not to hinder. A world from which suspicion and cruelty and fear have been forever banished. That is the sort of world I want! Is that the sort of world you want?

  • Richard Hannay: Has that penetrated?

Pamela: Right to the funny bone. Now tell me another one.
