Iri Weiss: I have a friend who is the producer of 39 Steps. He told me a story about Hitchcock's inability to let Madeleine Carroll scream at the horror scene after opening the door. Madeleine is a very good actress and a star at the same time. That scene was filmed countless times. Finally, when she opened the door and saw Hitchcock sitting there with her thighs spread out, revealing the private parts of her body, she screamed in surprise. I haven't done anything like that, but I believe you must be close to the actors when shooting a film. (Directing the Film P217)
