The age of self-certification and trust

Continued the blood and spirit of the black mirror. Even the form of the "three episodes" has been inherited in this special Christmas. The three short stories are full of materials and unambiguous. Every time I watched the black mirror, I was silent for a long time, and mixed feelings. I like to think of this series as a technology fable. Many technology products involved in the Black Mirror already exist in reality.

For example, let the deceased be resurrected on social networks http://www.ifanr.com/news/252335 For
example, the virtual girlfriend service https://invisiblegirlfriend.com
(and Say Goodbye, stand up!)

Some may be still in development, and some concepts are not far away from us. It can be said that the black mirror is right by our side, and we are in the black mirror-this age cannot be self-certified and trusted. Just like the pick-up tutor in Story 1 who claimed to provide guidance services, only he could see the first-view images of the recipients, but in reality, they shared the current events with a group of wolf friends unscrupulously. What a great opportunity to earn extra money! Is it essentially different from live broadcasts in online video chat rooms? And the poor recipient died before he was born, and finally met with such an anti-social personality. What about the most basic trust between people? Will you be able to make appointments happily in the future? This is the Internet age, the anxiety of identity between people and the anxiety of unequal information resources between people.

When you have a certain amount of information, or a mature mastery of a set of methods to obtain information, you have an advantage over others, and you can wait to hide behind a black mirror and peek at others like a white mouse. However, we have to admit that this advantage must be based on the authenticity of the information itself.

Like some popular events on the Internet recently, it is difficult for you to judge whether they are true or false. The previous "youths should not be deceived", it is really difficult to tell the truth, and it seems that hype marketing makes sense. The Internet seems transparent, but in fact it is more like a black mirror. Because they cannot easily prove themselves, they cannot be trusted easily. Is the fishing law enforcement like that in Story 3 rare? When everything you say will become evidence in court, and all chat records will become legal basis, the fun of communication will be lost. Especially in such a special country, many sensitive words can't be said casually, otherwise you will be asked to drink tea by checking the water meter without knowing what you committed. Must ask, that is "in accordance with relevant laws and regulations."

Therefore, I think Story 3 is much weaker than other stories, because it is not a good setting to use a copy of consciousness as a basis for law enforcement. In other words, this setting is nothing new, it is just another kind of hypnosis, changing the soup without changing the medicine. The setting of the dungeon of consciousness is just right on story 2. Using a copy of human consciousness as the control center of a smart home is simply too suitable, but she can know her "master" preferences and habits very well. The screenwriter also personified the copy of consciousness with ulterior motives and gave it humanity. (It's too bad, they are too bad!) Although as a programmer, I know that code is code, which is not human. Even if it is humane, it is only because artificial intelligence makes it behave like humanity. Similar to Asimov's robot law setting. However, at that moment, I still felt a deep hatred of human beings who confuse technology with human nature.

Science and technology should be people-oriented, and should not challenge human nature, test human nature, or even replace or obliterate human nature. Technology should be a tool, not a mask for mankind. For example, the blocking function that appeared in this episode exactly corresponds to the blackout on social networks. This is just a great irony, a mockery of the social incompetence of some people in reality. At least for those we have been close to, is it too rude and cowardly to end a relationship unilaterally?

As an Internet practitioner, I have always been pessimistic about the Internet. This pessimism is not a pessimism of the industry, but a gradual pessimism of the black mirror fable. But fortunately, there is a good drama like Black Mirror, which gives me the strength to watch.

BTW, Merry x'mas!

  • Harry: Ultimately the only thing you're worried about is the transition from one state to another, and that can't hurt you because it's it's just a state change.

  • Matt: It wasn't really real, so it wasn't really barbaric.

Matt: She's only made of code, she's not real. Fuck her!
