my faith

The following text will not affect the viewing experience at all. Those who want to watch this movie can be an appetizer.

My family is Catholic, and there is a Catholic church next to my house. When I was very young, I would attend church-organized studies. For a ignorant me, the story of the Bible impressed me deeply. When Jesus restores the sight of the blind, he can also resurrect the dead and so on. These miracles, as the monks and nuns spoke earnestly, made my spiritual world gradually chaotic in the real world. When I was young, I didn't doubt the story, but believed it too much. So there was a feeling in my heart that the crucifixion of Christ exists. I don't doubt other things, because it makes no sense.

Until I grew up slowly, I began to think about why the Almighty God would send Christ to come to suffer on earth? Regarding the struggle in the world, maybe he can show his miracle with just a move of his finger, and let the people on the earth enter a utopian society. Wouldn't it be better? The reason I like this movie so much is because he gave me a very novel explanation.

What I feel in this movie is the crucifixion that is more shocking than the crucifixion of Christ in the Bible. Christ here has miracles, but they are no longer out of reach. A person who accepts the will of God, but still thinks that mortals are generally people who have desires. I truly felt the suffering of Christ. It was no longer just physical torture, but the fear of responsibility, the fear of death, and other spiritual torture. These may be the deeper sufferings of a savior.

Every one of us lives in such a world. When thinking about our own existence, have we ever imagined whether heaven really exists after death? Where is the destination that people pursue in this long life? This movie is worth watching repeatedly, especially when Christ escaped from the cross and was nailed to it again. For my long life, maybe this is my belief.

The Last Temptation of Christ quotes

  • Jesus: [stares at the heavens] Father, will you listen to me? Are you still there? Will you listen to a selfish, unfaithful son? I fought you when you called, I resisted! I thought of no more. I didn't want to be your son! Can you forgive me?

  • Rabbi: That is blasphemy.

Jesus: Didn't they tell you? I am the saint of blasphemy. Don't make any mistakes, I didn't come here to bring peace, I came to bring a sword!

Rabbi: Talking like that will get you killed.

Jesus: Me, killed? Listen to me. This temple will be torn down in three days, torn down to the ground!
