Written years ago... it's a commemorative if you turn it out...

3:05, early morning. After watching the movie A River Runs Through It, I was full of thoughts. Perhaps this expression is a little bit earthy, but this is my truest feeling at the moment. The chest is full but can't say everything.

The movie is narrated in the first person, from the perspective of the brother Norman of the two brothers.

The two brothers were born in Montana, a province that is very close to nature because of its relative remoteness. When the pastor's father-a strict, pious person-often teaches them to pray, worship, and also teach them to fish. It may be because as the eldest son, the father seemed to be more strict with his elder brother. I only saw my father ask him to rewrite his composition over and over again. "Be concise, cut out half." He said so, and passed the red-lined paper to the elder son again; when he taught me this way, his younger son was never seen in the study. I only saw the two brothers fishing together. Using the same four-beat fishing method taught by my father, the swing of the fishing rod is between 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock when the line is thrown, so precise. Although the two brothers used the same technique to fish, the younger son was obviously not as obedient and educated as the older son.

It has been like this since ancient times, isn't it? The obedient eldest son is a bit dull, honest, kind, treats the girl he likes wholeheartedly, ordinary and sincerely tells her to marry me and I will be nice to you. Such people are the mainstay of a society. Maybe not as cheerful and lively as the younger son, with a variety of tricks, but he must be a down-to-earth person. Not everyone loves him, but everyone trusts him very much. Maybe not a "good man" in the eyes of a woman, but he must be a good man. Then, after having such an eldest son, there will inevitably be a completely opposite character. When the two talk about their dreams in the future, they will say that they want to be a professional fly-fisher. It's likable, a smiley face spreads out and few people can resist it, so likable. He would hug his mother to greet him in a big circle when his neighbors gathered together, making her giggle like eighteen; when his golden brown hair was raised in the sun, it made her even more so. People have the urge to love him.

The two brothers are all the same and strong, but they are so different inside.

When I was young, my elder brother was a well-behaved kid who didn't have to worry about everything from his parents, but my younger brother would sit at the table all afternoon just to resist the plate of cereal that people have been eating every day for thousands of years. He is unwilling, so he will never compromise. His toughness is internal, and his heart is so strong that his father finally had to give up.

When it was a little bigger, the two brothers went to the town to play. When passing by the places where women with soft waists and bright makeup would live in every city, my brother just watched secretly from the side because he remembered his father's teachings. He is the son of a devout Catholic and cannot do anything contrary to his and his father's religious beliefs. But at this time, the younger brother rushed out, scratching their heads at them like women, which caused them to laugh more promiscuously. Although the elder brother finally couldn't see it and hugged his younger brother back, the difference between the two became more apparent.

The days have passed the restless puberty. The boys at this time would have some crazy ideas, but only the younger brother would say that he would borrow someone else’s boat to try the dangerous rapids. At first everyone was full of enthusiasm, but when they got to the river, they said that no one was willing to get on the boat. Although the older brother went up, he finally couldn't bear to fight with his younger brother after returning home. He was afraid, he was terrified, and the experience of escaping from the dead let him know that he was different from his younger brother.

Near the middle of the movie, the eldest son went to Los Angeles to study at a good university, left his hometown to go to a more modern city, and did not return home until seven years later. When he returned, he was an academically successful gentleman. He had a good future. There may be a momentary confusion. He didn't know what to do, but the future was always bright when he wanted to come. Of course, he is the eldest son trusted by his father. At the same time, the younger son finished college near his hometown and found a job early after graduation. A reporter from a local small newspaper. The daily news is nothing more than that, with some groundless stories on the street. Today, he still continues his style, and his inner strength is still maintained, and it is more and more manifested because of his maturity. Perhaps because of this, he became so romantic and suave, with a fatal attraction to girls. Even between unintentional gestures, it easily attracted the attention of the future sister-in-law. God knows how much courage his brother muster up, and how many ways he has been contemplated before the girl remembered him and agreed to his invitation.

He is such a handsome man, he still shows the child's innocence from time to time, of course, because he is still young. But he was a gambler and owed a lot of debt. But he didn't want his brother to interfere. He said to him, that is my debt, OK? That is my debt. And this debt, placed there, always reveals an uncomfortable air, faintly in that dark corner.

God made man. And man is not a god, so it is impossible to be perfect. So God allowed my brother to succeed in school and possess a perfect character, but at the same time he was somewhat self-proclaimed, dull and boring. Let the younger brother be loved by all kinds of favors, while standing out in the crowd, but at the same time frizzy and reckless. Both of them are bitten apples. The difference is that the shortcoming of the former only slightly obscured his light, while the latter brought us a devastating blow inadvertently.

The elder brother and younger brother are very different, so he made up his mind to accept the university's employment and leave Montana. He is an enterprising person, so he said, I'm going to Chicago, so go with you. There are several big newspapers there. When he said this, there was a secret worry in his tone. He felt that something was secretly about to move, and he didn't know when it would explode. And since he is unwilling to accept his assistance, then at least let him take him away. But brother said no, no brother, I will never leave Montana. He smiled when he said this, and the river water reflected the golden sunlight on his face. There was no haze at that time, and he was as happy as an angel.

I will never leave Montana.

His words are so firm, so such hopes have indeed come true. In a dark, unacceptable, predictable but unexpected way.

"He was shot to death with a gun. The body was left in the alley. His hand was interrupted, right."

His right hand used to swing the rod so beautifully. In a way completely different from his father, the fishing line became a horizontal line in the air, making a free and dazzling arc; "Lu" skillfully threw the dice, and used his fingertips to fly out the winning "A"; this right hand also added text to the report. Although I don't know what it is, I want to make fun of it. There was cynical cynicalness between laughing and cursing. It was the right hand. Shortly before that, he fished a fish the size of his upper arm in the river, vigorously, with muscles and bones singing the joy of youth. At that time, his father proudly patted him on the shoulder, while he was holding the fish in his hand, smiling so nicely.

Such a right hand was broken by life in the end, and was thrown into the dirty alley with his master like rubbish.

Life is impermanent, like a river. Passing through the beautiful plains, the watershed is endless; it flows into the forest and becomes a quiet stream; passing by the rocky river becomes the kind of rapids, swirling; there is also a shoal and an end.

He is an adventurous person, dragging his brother and sitting in a borrowed boat to surf up and down in the rapids; in order to catch that big fish, the ups and downs in the water are so worrying that he held his breath; The volatile atmosphere in the gambling hall. His actions were so intense, eye-catching and worrying, but at the same time he refused to admit that he admired and envied him. He has such a momentum, like a free and natural creature, he is unrestrained, enthusiastic, and even wild. Perhaps this wildness only occupies a very small part of his life. It is necessary to know that the appearance of his qualities is still positive, but it is this wild trait that makes him not like a person born in a priest's family. Unlike anyone in society.

Perhaps because of the dissimilarity, his life stopped abruptly in this short second-first number.

The strange thing is that I am not too sad when I see it, even though I like him so much. Maybe it's because his duality is so strong that it is difficult for me to express my feelings for him in a simple way. But I feel that he should go back. He is bound to this world. Although he enjoys it, he is not suitable for him after all. Maybe because of this, he can't go to more industrial places, he can't leave the nature, he can't leave the river, he still has to fish in the river, right? He belongs there, and his life is like playing a game of bravely advancing in the river, up and down, like a fish in the river or something else. He smiled like that, so that everyone around him forgot that he was still that kind of person after all, a person with a scroll and a reef. Such a free and natural disposition. He is not perfect, but people love him.

Although the elder brother is the narrator throughout the movie, he is still the protagonist. Even though the appearance of my brother fishing in the river at the end of the story seems eternal, I still firmly believe that in the picture that is remembered by thousands of people, it is him who draws a beautiful shape with a thin fishing line in that scene.

The father in the movie said that we do not know the person we know best, but this does not prevent us from loving him.

Yes Paul, love you.

A River Runs Through It quotes

  • Older Norman: [narrating] My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him, all good things - trout as well as eternal salvation - came by grace; and grace comes by art; and art does not come easy.

  • Paul Maclean: [to Norman] Oh, I'll never leave Montana, brother.
