I don’t know who translated Rumor Has It into "gossip." When I watched the beginning, I almost regarded it as an urban light comedy love story. In addition to the humorous connection between this movie and the masterpiece "The Graduate", I resisted watching it.
Sarah, who is about to get engaged, discovered a secret of her mother while attending her sister's wedding celebration: on the eve of their parents' marriage, her mother had ran away from home for a week. What caused the mother to leave, who did the mother go to see, and what did she do? Is he still not his father's biological daughter?
With this question, with the same mood as the current mother-confusion about the future of marriage and family, thinking about what life she wants, Sarah began to find her mother's past path. She found a man named Kevin Costner who spent a mysterious week with her mother who ran away from home. Like her mother, Sarah seems to have been fascinated by this man. She spent a few happy days with this man and experienced the same feeling as her mother back then. Dancing in a small hotel, a sudden burst of passion for life, driving a private jet to another village just to enjoy the scenery, participating in the super party of the upper class, seeing all kinds of super celebrities, uninhibited life and happy day.
What was the panic and confusion that Sarah and her mother faced before they got married? As Sarah said, it's the passing of passion. This can be reflected from the beginning of the movie, Sarah's eagerness to "Have a Sex" with her boyfriend in the bathroom on the plane. Lovers are getting closer and closer, and passion must be lost in the end. Sarah and her mother, like all the women in the world, foresee the dull and lacking passion of real life after marriage. Although they love their husband and man, who is willing to do this? Where did the uninhibited and happy days go? With fear, Sarah is also running away from home, enjoying the truest passion in her life, enjoying the joy of indulgence, thinking and rearranging her life.
In the end Sarah, like her mother, left the man and returned to her boyfriend. Like all love stories, live a happy life. But having that life of thinking and remembering in passion may be without regrets and precious.
There are two lines in the film that are very touching. One is Sarah and her father. Sarah complains that she is incompatible with family members, which is completely different from her father's personality:
Sarah Huttinger: ...and you drive *so* slow...
Earl Huttinger: I only drive slow because you're in the car
One is Sarah returning to her boyfriend's side:
"I didn't come here to tell you that I can't live without you. I can live without you. I just don' t want to. "
I'm not here to tell you that I can't live without you in my life, I can live without you. I just want to tell you that I don't want this.
