The summer vacation in 2000 was an ordinary night. After dinner, I was still playing in the living room. My father reading the newspaper on the side suddenly said to me in surprise and mysteriously, "Son, let's go to the movies!" I was taken aback by this proposal. As a year old, I have never been to a movie theater. All my knowledge of movies is limited to the conversations of the adults and the explanations of the teachers in the kindergarten. I was too surprised, because in my expectation, there should be some ceremonial celebration before going to the cinema for the first time... Father then said, "Don’t you like dinosaurs? There happens to be a name today. A movie called "Dinosaurs" was released!" It’s been more than ten years, and I can’t remember exactly what my father said at that time. I just remember roughly what I meant, but my father’s demeanor that night, my impressions, have been so far. Still vividly remembered.
My father only found out through the movie release information of the local theaters published in the Evening News, but when he found out that "Dinosaurs" was released, it was almost 7 o'clock in the evening. My father told my mother a few words, we both got dressed quickly, and took the bus to a theater a few kilometers away. Before entering the theater, I dreamed about what the theater looked like. I naively thought it was the kind of theater that I had seen in Hong Kong movies. It was spacious, stepped, and very atmospheric. As a result, I went to the theater and found that it was more like the theater we were talking about today. The theater is very small, the seats are all wooden chairs, the whole projection hall is flat without any steps, and the front row is full. My father and I are sitting in the last few rows. Someone in front put his leg on the front chair while smoking. At that time, I was still in kindergarten and I felt very uncomfortable with all this. Dimly lit rooms, unclean undersides, and smelly rooms. There is no air-conditioning in the theater in summer, and the uncles and aunts in front are all fanning fans. This is not exactly what I expected. At that time, I only felt that this was incompatible with the education of truth, goodness and beauty that I received in the kindergarten. In addition, when we arrived, "Dinosaurs" had already been screened to the end... I was almost crying at the time-we hurried here, not only the environment was disappointed, and even the movie was about to be finished? ! After a while, the movie was really over... After the end captions were played, a Hong Kong movie was screened in the theater, and some people in the theater began to disperse. My father hurriedly told me to sit still. He went out and said something to the conductor. When he came back, he asked me if he wanted to watch it tonight. I didn’t hesitate to say, because just a few minutes of ending credits, I was completely shocked by this movie, I just want to watch it immediately and in its entirety. My father said yes, but the movie here is a carousel. You will not be able to play "Dinosaurs" until now the movie is finished. I said it was okay, I could wait. So that night, we first saw a Hong Kong movie as an appetizer. After an hour and a half, when I was almost sleepy enough to fall asleep, "Dinosaurs" was finally screened again.
The experience of watching "Dinosaurs" that night, I still remember some of the details to this day, and the impact went deep into my bones. This movie made me fall in love with the behemoth like dinosaurs, even though I liked dinosaurs before watching the movie. But after watching the movie, my feeling is love. All the animals in "Dinosaurs" have personalities, and the unity, friendship, justice, and bravery they exhibit are just right for me as a young man. I went home after 10 o'clock in the evening, and I had no sleep, even though I had never even seen what the world was like after 10 o'clock at that time. A few months later, my father and I happened to see DVDs and VCDs of "Dinosaurs" on the shelves in the mall. I cried and wanted to watch them, but at that time my family was poor and there was no playback equipment. My father suddenly thought that his colleague had bought this disc, so he took me to his colleague's house and watched the movie on his colleague's DVD. That uncle was also a fan of dinosaurs. When I left, he smiled and said that he could give me the disc. I was so happy, but my father insisted that he couldn't take it. Later, at my crying request, my father finally agreed to buy a playback device. I wanted to buy a DVD, but my father said it was too expensive. Given the current situation at home, I should buy a VCD, which can still be viewed. So I bought a VCD player, and the disc "Dinosaurs" was also a VCD version.
At that time, I liked watching this movie so much that I watched it almost every day for the first two weeks after I bought it home. Even if I knew the plot behind it, I would never tire of it, and every time I could find details that I hadn't noticed before. Later, my father bought me other CDs one after another. My frequency of watching "Dinosaurs" dropped to once a week, and then it became once a month, or I wanted to watch it and watch it again. When I watched "Dinosaurs" the last few times, the disc was so badly worn that large areas of mosaics often appeared during playback...
In my childhood, I was deeply impressed by the form of CDs. There are three works that have played a decisive role in the establishment of my three views, one is the classic Disney masterpiece "Bambi", the other is made by Shangmei "Baolian Lantern" and this "Dinosaur". Among them, dinosaurs are my first, most frequent, and favorite movie. In fact, looking at it today, "Dinosaurs" has many flaws in the screen, and the story is not novel enough, and even has the shadow of Disney's most classic story template "Bambi". But at that time, I firmly believed that "Dinosaurs" was the best movie in the world. At least on the back of the box of VCD, the introduction of the movie mentioned that "this film cost 200 million US dollars, and the film crew went to many places, and it took two years to complete the filming." I am convinced. I believe in such a grandiose. The giant system should be created by a great team. But current data shows that the investment in "Dinosaurs" is 135 million U.S. dollars, and Disney suffered a blood loss because of the production of "Dinosaurs". The film's box office difference did not even recover the cost. However, in the "Ancient" 2000, even US$135 million was considered the most expensive movie of the year.233
After graduating from elementary school, I moved. That time I lost about dozens of CDs I collected from "Dinosaurs". "Dinosaurs" began to slowly fade out of my memory, until today, I suddenly remembered it, so I wrote this article as a commemoration.
Even if this movie is watched today, it shouldn't have a score of 7.3.
