(June 21, 2010) I was
very disappointed. I heard that the film was pretty bad that year, so I didn't gather up the courage to watch it until 9 years later. It really wasted 100 minutes. The protagonists are all I like very much: Julia Robert, John Cusack and Catherine Zeta-Jones, so I am paranoid that this shouldn’t be a simple romantic comedy. Let’s analyze the film released in 2001:
Catherine Zeta-Jones is in the red. , That year was sandwiched between "Drug Network" and "Chicago";
John Cusack still wandered in low-cost films, with "Highly Loyal" before and "Adapted Screenplay" afterwards;
and Julia Robert's fans were still immersed in She was in the joy of winning the Oscar award that year.
Moreover, the people who count the banknotes that are rightly popular, and those who have been unwilling to but maintain the quality, all have to complain about the Hollywood system, whether it is sincere or not, the theme of this story is right.
In summary, "American Sweetheart" should be something, a film that does not show anything, but a little warm, romantic and humorous, how can it feed the three fans?
The story is very old-fashioned, leaving aside the boring humor, the basic love part is not bright, and lacks persuasiveness. The irony of the Hollywood system’s influence on the stars is more a superficial revelation. The facts are feelings. The audience knows more than the screenwriters. The worst thing is that the ending is completely negated-there are still good people in the entertainment circle, and this is what we know, why slap yourself? The director's scheduling of actors is also very poor, which is particularly evident in Julia Robert. In addition, relaxation and brain relaxation are really not the same thing.
