It’s been a long time since I wrote a review about the movie, because I haven’t watched a movie for a long time. Since I started working, I’ve been very busy. When I have a break, naturally there is a better way to relax than watching a movie. Watching a movie, especially Watching some serious movies is sometimes more tiring.

Yesterday I watched a standard aspirational film "The Great Debater". The film gathered two black actors: Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. With these two names, the film is worth watching.

Briefly talk about some of my feelings.

The film took place in the United States in the 1930s, when the apartheid system in the United States was rampant, especially in the south of the United States. It is said that the film is adapted from real life. It tells the story of a black American poet who trained a black student debate team to fight all over the United States. However, I don't know these characters. My American history is obviously relatively rough.

I have always suspected that Denzel Washington is a racist, because he often participated in movies about American black civil rights, such as "Glory", such as "Remember the Giants", this time he personally directed this movie. movie. Of course, the concepts promoted in these films are correct.

This film was probably filmed to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. for two reasons: First, this year marks the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assassination, and Martin Luther King was killed on April 4, 1968; second is the film. Finally, the protagonists compete with the Harvard University Debate Team. The topic of the debate is "Non-violence and non-cooperation", which is exactly the struggle concept advocated by Dr. Jin.

As a film about debate, the lines of the film can be said to be very important, and it must be full of thought and emotional power to convince the crowd. It can be said that the film has successfully completed the task. As an inspirational film, the film will definitely arrange a moving speech. This is the repertoire of American themed movies. In particular, inspirational films are the most popular. The Americans' sensational level is indeed a fairy fart, extraordinary, and it just caters to my low-level. Fun, always meets my cheap emotional needs. So I was moved from the beginning of the film, until the end of the film I left crocodile tears, I will not disclose the content of the speech, my film is not bad, right?

If you want to be fully moved, you must first understand the great movement of non-violence and non-cooperation. The idea of cursing.

Regarding the ideological connotation of the concept of non-violence and non-cooperation, Dr. Jin’s passage is vivid and exciting. I will quote it directly: "In the process of fighting for legal status, we should not use wrong actions to commit crimes. We must not use the bitter wine of hatred to alleviate the thirst for freedom. We must always stand on high ground to maintain our dignity and discipline in our way of fighting. We must not reduce creative struggles to violent low actions. We must work tirelessly to stand on the sacred heights of using soul power to deal with physical power."

What I really want to say is that such a great idea as the non-violent and non-cooperative movement is not a place that can take root and sprout from all corners of the world. It needs special soil, that is, the rule of law and human rights. It is funny to say that the idea of seeking human rights needs the protection of human rights, but this is the case.

The Great Debaters quotes

  • Melvin B. Tolson: Take the meanest, most restless nigger. Strip him of his clothes in front of the remaining male niggers, female niggers, and nigger infants, tar and feather him, tie each leg to a horse facing an opposite direction, set him on fire, and beat both horses until they tear him apart in front of male, female and nigger infants. Bullwhip and beat the remaining nigger males within an inch of their life. Do not kill them but put the fear of God in them, for they can be useful for future breeding. Anybody know who Willie Lynch was? Anybody? Raise your hand. No one? He was a vicious slave owner in the West Indies. The slave-masters in the colony of Virginia were having trouble controlling their slaves, so they sent for Mr. Lynch to teach them his methods. The word "lynching" came from his last name. His methods were very simple, but they were diabolical. Keep the slave physically strong but psychologically weak and dependent on the slave master. Keep the body, take the mind.

  • Henry Lowe: School's the only place you can read all day. Except prison.
