In the name of love

The character shaping of fathers, mothers and children in the film is relatively simple, but it also highlights the key points. Father is a common American image of love, tolerance, humor, and omnipotence, while mother and children are images that should be loved, understood, and spoiled.

After the daughter got into trouble, the mother defended and the daughter argued, neither of them tried to understand the impact of this incident on the father's situation and the whole family.

When the father encountered a crisis in his workplace, he did not tell his wife and children the truth, and asked his family to face this critical moment together. Instead, he hurriedly used the RV trip to cover up the new situation.

During the RV trip, the father dealt with various situations alone and was embarrassed, but the mother and children not only did not help, but also complained about all kinds of accidents that appeared.

The father who writes documents in the toilet in the middle of the night is really pitiful. In a scene that cannot be worse, he works alone to resolve the danger of unemployment.

In the film, the family is not seen as a team, only the father is struggling to support it alone.

The other family in the film always provides assistance at the most critical time, but the male lead’s family has repeatedly avoided contact with this family because they don’t like the style of this family. From another perspective, it reflects the lack of tolerance, understanding, acceptance, and even gratitude of the male lead family towards others.

This is not a journey of love discovery for the family, but a journey of loveless exposure.

Is it because the pressure of a perfect father image, a perfect family image, and a perfect vacation image makes it impossible for family members to treat each other candidly, love and help each other? Hypocrisy, probably like this.

In addition, I always feel that Robin Williams's performance in the film is not very dedicated. I don't know if it is affected by his final choice in life, or the film is already creating an out-of-state character.

RV quotes

  • Bob Munro: Sir, this is no ordinary RV. It's part ATV, part SUV, and certified by the DMV. It's got positraction, Dynaflow, pretty much control traction with me in control. It's got heated rims-wish I had those.

  • Jamie Munro: Well, if I can get Carl to sleep in the next 10 minutes - you might still have a shot tonight.

Bob Munro: Use a mallet if you have to.
