I think I'm in a very good but also very bad era. In this era, all the stories have been filmed into movies more than once. The people behind me are likely to be trapped in the vast ocean of films---I mean one day, one person will spend his entire life without being able to finish all the films produced. And I was lucky, because I caught up with some good films and heard some good stories, and these stories are likely not to be re-shot, because of their profound significance.
"BIG FISH" is one of them.
For the Chinese translation of this film, I think it's better to use "Big Fish". Although the name is too unpretentious and not conducive to the sales of the theater, I believe anyone who has watched this film seriously and was deeply moved by it should agree with me: there is only the word "Big Fish" The title perfectly expresses the content of the movie, that kind of dreamlike color. "Big Fish" is not filmed for everyone, it is for all those who want to understand their father.
The movie "Big Fish" tells the life story of a father, full of magic, metaphors and dreams. In the first hour and 30 minutes, it can be used as a magical version of "Forrest Gump", which will never make people feel boring, but will only be deeply attracted by those colorful fantasy. And in the last ten minutes, at the most critical moment of telling the story, as if the fireworks are exhausted and the music ceases, the starry sky is revealed in the night sky, slender and dusty. You just feel that at that moment, you understand all the starlight, but you can't speak.
"BIG FISH" makes people speechless.
I don't know how a girl understands his father, I am a man. I think most men have a similar mental journey: When we were children, our father was an omnipotent god. He has a strong arm that can lift us up high, his piercing beard will cause tingling when hugs, he can answer all your questions and he knows everything. . . . . . Then, we gradually discovered that they are not omnipotent. When facing the world, they have as much trouble and confusion as we do. They retreat from our lives a little bit, because they are not so important, because we can use them gradually. He carried the sky on his shoulders.
Maybe there will be a fight because we don't bother to live like them, we feel that we are stronger and smarter than them, and we don't want to follow the path they set. Although after many years, we finally realized that they did it only out of love, and quite a few proved to be correct. The father-son war continued until the family planning policy allowed the family to produce the only heiress.
In this kind of battle that lasts for thousands of years, there is no worst case, only worse. The dad in "BIG FISH" has been like a day for decades and is a big talker. During his decades of bragging, he repeated his big words and lies countless times, which made people tired, embarrassed, and irritating. From the standpoint of my son (I'm still a son, I haven't upgraded to become a father), I think there are good reasons to think that having such a dad is a natural disaster, and the family is unfortunate.
The absurd thing is that it seems that the whole world is doing the right thing with the son before he becomes a father. All the people were on the side of Dahuawang's father. They knew it was a lie, but they were unmoved and seemed to encourage the old father to make a fool of himself. And the old father seemed to have more sufficient reasons to continue his big lies.
All fathers will die one day, maybe the son will smash the house and go far away because of the quarrel, but he will always come back that day, and the war between men will always be reconciled. All fathers are very patient, they are old and have enough time to wait for reconciliation. All sons will ask a question when they grow up for many years, after many years of working and living. Facing the dying old father, they all want to ask the same question: Who is this dying man? What has he done? What is his life like? Because the son is the bone in the father's bones and the flesh in the flesh, people always ask themselves: Where do I come from? We cannot come from myths and legends, so rational we will lose our focus.
The big story in "BIG FISH", the king's father still answers with his fairy tales. The son has to find out the truth by himself and find out who his father is and what he has done. Look for the big fish, the biggest catfish his father has said many times, the catfish that no one can catch.
I can swear to the heavens that at the end of the film, my father really became a big fish, and I am sure that it is true, it has nothing to do with my tears. Even in the twinkling of tears, I insisted that everything Dad said was true.
In this world, only outside the person you love, do you need to distinguish the so-called true and false. There are various theories about things in life. The so-called truth may be the most boring and unacceptable. And people who paint rainbow colors on the outside of life are worthy of respect and trust because of their love.
I remember my son said at the end:
Have you ever heard a joke, because you have heard it too many times and you forget why it is funny?
But when you listen to it again, suddenly, it becomes brand new again.
So you remember why you liked it in the first place.
I think that was the last joke of my father.
Father told that story so many times that he became a story too.
In this way, behind him, the story is still circulating, and he has become an immortal legend.
At the end of the film, a big fish suddenly jumped out of the water with a dreamy blue mist covering the river, full of life and unlimited freedom. And the endless river continued to flow endlessly in silence, seemingly illusory and true.
