"American Animals," an absurd crime tale about conscience

This is an absurd crime story. Youthful desires are ignorant and arrogant, thinking they can carry out a perfect crime textbook version, they pursue this exciting process but fear the result that will ruin their life, so repeatedly contradictory. In reality, all four of them were disappointed and dissatisfied with life. They seem to reject mediocrity, but in fact they don't know how to deal with the unhappiness they encounter. It was just a whim to steal books from library collections, but it spawned a crime that didn't even know what you were going to do with the money if the plan worked out. From the gathering of two people to four people, along with the planning and organization to the naive theft process full of loopholes, the emotions of the whole film also changed from impulsive blood to nervousness and panic after the incident. What I saw It is the torture of human conscience, the evolution of criminal psychology that knows it cannot be violated. And the most brilliant part of the whole film is when the four people dressed as old men are interrupted by the "librarian meeting", when Spencer walks out and feels that the world is full of love, the kind of beauty that has landed on the earth again scenery.

The plan that could have been terminated, continued to be carried out in a panic because of that stupid obsession. Wouldn't want to hurt anyone, but that crude approach terrified the loyal librarian who guarded the books. The plan went in the opposite direction, bugs were everywhere, and thus deepened the fears in the four people's hearts. The film deliberately magnifies their emotions, swearing at each other and thinking about the worst result of this stupid crime after thinking about it.

What ruined their lives was not the punishment brought by the crime and the 7-year prison sentence, but the pollution of their dignity brought by the theft throughout their lives. No matter what achievements they will have in their own field, they cannot escape the crusade of their own spirit, and everything they do in the future is to redeem their own lives.

  • Warren Lipka: Thing is, I worked to get on that team, since I was about five. And I have absolutely no idea why. To be honest, sir, I think this whole place is a disappointment. I think you're a disappointment. And I think this whole goddamn town, is a disappointment.
