"Icarus": Is there really such a strong sun?

The first time I knew the word "Icarus" was when I was watching "Things from the Sky". It was a (supposedly very connotative) meat fan. Icarus is the name of the big-breasted protagonist in it, and the seiyuu is very good. Favorite Hayami Saori.

Well, the plot is just the harem man's routine, the useless male protagonist, an almighty angel falls from the sky, every episode of the daily small theater, every few episodes, a girl runs out to fill the harem, all kinds of nosebleeds will kill you, in laughter and laughter Play GG.

The film doesn't have any flash points that I can remember, but I can't forget the distinctive name of "Icarus" after hearing it, big breasts, pink hair, natural attributes, good character songs, and have--

That pair of iconic angel wings.

Later, after reading the encyclopedia, I realized that this pair of wings is incredible, and the knowledge is on it.

Icarus (Greek: Ίκαρος English name: Icarus) is the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology. When Daedalus escaped from Crete with wings made of wax and feathers, he flew too high and his wings were broken. The wax melted by the sun fell into the water and died, and was buried on an island.

A tragic character who is romantic to death.

Icarus, wax wings, flying, sun, falling... these are all wonderful metaphors about quest, about freedom, about destruction, about authority, and the name is full of literature and art, so naturally It has been repeatedly used in various literature, film and television, and two-dimensional works.

For example, this, produced by Netflix, this year's Oscar's best documentary feature:

"Icarus".

Icarus: 'absent judgement' of athletes

When I was in middle school, I was a day student, and I hurriedly rushed home before 12:00 at noon every day, just to wait for "Sports News". Although my personal interests are only in football and basketball, but I also watch some others.

So I learned that one of the most awesome cycling competitions in the world is called the Tour de France, and in this Tour de France, there is only one person who is the most awesome every year. His name is Armstrong, the champion of the race every day, and the champion of the Tour de France every year. There is no doubt that dominance. For those in the middle school period, they are not idols, but there is admiration like a surging river.

It is such a childhood hero, inspirational idol, who later broke the doping scandal and won all Tour de France championships by Guo. To be honest, when I saw this news at the time, I was stunned and a little heartbroken.

I'm a passerby sports fan, not to mention Brian Flower, who sees Armstrong as a god as an amateur cyclist. The totem he worshipped fell, one can imagine how shocked and shocked he was.

However, my passerby's heartache lasted for a few seconds at most, and what to do after that. For Brian, the driver and director, this can't be left to chance.

He decided to test the medicine by himself. First, to see how effective the drug was, and second, to see how to work with professionals to break through the layers of drug testing.

He decided to film the process, because it was interesting to think about it because he took medicine, became stronger, and competed with the drug inspection agency.

This is the story of the first half of this documentary.

The first 40 minutes were really interesting. Aside from the heavy theme of doping, the movie is more like telling a bloody story of how a middle-aged teenager became stronger and fought against an evil organization.

The teenager only finished 14th in one race and realized that his talent was limited and that it was almost impossible to go further. However, after hearing that there is a magical medicine "Dali Pill" in the Northern State, it can enhance the power, so I visited the masters all over the world. Fortunately, with the help of senior Rodchenkov, it seems to be done...

Does it have the look and feel of a juvenile manga?

But the crux of the story is that "Dali Pill" is a forbidden drug, cheating, a demon heresy, and a deal with the devil.

However, the film's attitude towards "Dali Pill" is intriguing. I feel that the author is extremely ambiguous about the fact that athletes take banned drugs. It is not so much condemnation and contempt, but more helplessness and sympathy.

From the relationship between athletes and doping, we can easily associate the metaphor of Icarus and wax wings. But as a documentary, the athletes who are one of the subjects to be judged are silent. Except for a few excerpts of Armstrong's "confession" interview, there is absolutely no athletes' opinions and speeches on the entire doping incident in the film.

It's no wonder that doping is a closely guarded topic for the athlete community. Admitting that you take medicine is tantamount to denying all your past honors and efforts, and speaking out in public may be over-interpreted no matter what, and you risk losing everything if you are not careful. Even the protagonist of the scandal that has already been hammered, the interests and groups involved in his backside, it is impossible for him to speak freely.

But it doesn't matter, I can't find anyone else, the director is an athlete, let the director show you step by step the means of operation and mental process.

The director's medication is completely personal behavior, without the intervention of external force, and by observing the director, perhaps we can get a glimpse of the mood of some athletes who take the medication.

"I'm number 14, and I'm a level gap with those in front of me."

It hurts to realize that you have limited talent.

I spent all my youth and all my enthusiasm on a sport, but when I was walking, I suddenly realized that my upper limit was just like this. Can't catch up.

no way no money.

Some people choose to take medicine because they do not accept their fate.

In pursuit of a faster, higher and stronger sun, they chose to insert wax wings.

However, the ending of the director's participation in the competition is more like a mockery of fate. Although he performed well at the beginning after taking the medicine, due to the frequent occurrence of conditions, the ranking behind him kept falling, and he could not enter the top 14 at all.

Put on wings, but fly lower.

This is actually an intentional or unintentional warning from the movie: although I have experienced the psychology of pursuing excellence, it is difficult to achieve real success through cheating by taking medicine.

However, the subsequent development of the matter made this warning seem as weak as the soaked instant noodles.

Icarus: Wings are harder, or the sun is stronger

From the director's perspective and experiments, the film leads to the real protagonist of Rodchenkov, and then uses him as a clue to pull out the cocoon and draw out the huge shady scene of the Russian drug-doping scandal.

So the first and second parts of the film are almost completely separated. The first half is the growth story of a middle-aged teenager, and the second half becomes a political suspense drama full of conspiracy.

Although the themes of the two parts revolve around doping, the pattern of discussion is very different.

The pattern of the former part is: personal choice;

The pattern of the latter part is: complicity, collective will.

In terms of original intentions, there is no essential difference between the two. They both achieve good results. Individuals win medals, and countries win more medals.

In terms of action, there is actually not much difference, it is nothing more than coordination, dredging, and deception.

The biggest difference is in the number of people.

Individual choices are most related to a few people; and collective will, when implemented, is up and down, inside and out, groups of people.

Groups of people collaborate, dredge, and deceive.

The process of realization is not complicated. Applying the formula of "1984", learning, understanding, and accepting are just three steps.

But for people to obey obediently, looming behind must be the shadow of a huge authority.

Until one day, outside forces lifted the tip of the iceberg and exposed the conspiracy. After being abandoned, the people who were cornered and half sought asylum and half of them died, and the world discovered that there was nothing behind the shiny medals. A little truth about five fingers.

But the story stops here.

No further, no happy ending. A person's truth is not as powerful as legends say. On the poker table, only power has the final say.

I can only sigh, the wings of a person's Icarus will naturally be sunburned all at once. But the Icarus of a group of people, with wings made of special materials, is not afraid of the scorching sun, and can even cover the sky.

So, consider that quote from George Orwell in the opening credits...

What can be done? Is it useful?
