"Hibernation" (2014) by Nouri Big Ceylan, non-linear structure, strips the thread, there are at least a few key points, or a few thin lines. One is the relationship between the hotel owner Aidin and the farmhand Ismail's family, which is a class difference; the other is the battle of arguments between Aidin and a divorced old sister, which is a family relationship; the last is the elderly Aidin The growing generational relationship with the beautiful young wife is the oxidation of the marriage in disrepair. Of course, there are also debates between Edin and his old friend Savi and his young teacher Levant.

Once these relationships are clarified, and after scrutinizing and chewing on the film, there will be a general clear rather than final conclusion. The movie does not need to explain why Edin, as an actor, gave up the good life in Istanbul, and ran back to his hometown in central Anatolia, and inherited this small hotel on the mountain left by his ancestors. There can only be one explanation, that he is retired and has nothing to do, not to mention that it is difficult to leave his homeland, and when he is old, he should return to his roots.

After all, after being away from home for decades, things are different. He only knew how much the farm laborers rented his house and how much they owed him, but he didn't know anything about people, let alone know them or associate with them. He only knew Fatma, the maid who was busy at his hotel, and Hidaya, the male helper and driver. The problem is, as life goes on, people and things intersect, and there are always bumps and bumps.

On this day, Hidaya took Edding to a horse farm in the distance to see horses. It was a Japanese tourist who mentioned horses, so he thought of looking for a good horse. After seeing a gray and white horse, on the way back, the glass of the car on the right was suddenly shattered, caught off guard, and almost had a traffic accident. Hidaya caught the little boy Elias who fell in the ditch. Afraid that he was cold and sick, Hidaya told the master to send him home, and wanted to ask him why he did this by the way. But the child's father, Ismail, didn't appreciate it. He slapped his son a few times, and then smashed his own window with his own hands. Just like what his son did, he asked Hidaya, "Do you still want to?" How? What else do you want?"

Edin, who was sitting in the car, beckoned Hidaya to leave and stop pulling. At this time, Ismail's younger brother Hadim Ogard came back. He thought it was the master who came to ask for the debt and rent, so he apologized for his brother's irrational behavior. Hidaya left. In the car, Edin asked what was going on. This came to my mind. It turned out that the house he lived in was also rented by his family, and he had arrears over the years. Maybe the little boy has been exposed to so much since childhood that he fell into the root of class hatred. You can tell by looking at Ismail's hatred and stingy eyes. And Hidaya was a bit of a faux-fake, which made Ismail, who was never willing to give in, irritated.

The matter was not over, and after that, Hamdi Ogard came to Aidin to apologize repeatedly, making Aidin exhausted. Although Aidin did not discriminate against them fundamentally, he did not put himself in the poor family's shoes, and still claimed the money for smashing the car glass, which made the Hamdi family's already very poor life even more embarrassing. The last time, when Hamdi made a special trip with little Elias to make amends, the stubborn child fainted on the spot, which terrified the Edin family.

This reminds me of the director's favorite writer Chekhov's short story "The Death of a Civilian". Hamdi is more or less like the civil servant who keeps falling. People with disparate identities always want to show their sincerity in this humble way, which is actually quite sad enough in itself. It's true that one mother has nine sons, and nine sons do not pass on their mothers. These two brothers are stubborn and soft.

4

What also gave Aidin a headache was her old sister Nicola. After she got divorced, she lived here all the time. Apart from reading books, she liked to pick on her brother's thorns. She also has her own theory of forgiving the wicked. "Rather than fighting evil, find a better way to forgive them," she said. Aidin said half-sarcastically, "Forgiveness or accommodation, there is only one dead end." Of course there is no winner or loser in this frivolous argument. And then happened a scene where the little boy fainted.

Aiding is busy during the day, and at night sits in front of the computer and writes reviews, sometimes for the old sister to look over. Of course, the old girl has praise and bullets. Aydin also wanted to fulfill his ultimate dream as an actor, writing a "History of Turkish Drama". Nicola had a new idea in a chat with Edin's young wife, Nihal, and she wanted to get back with her ex-husband. This made Nihal feel unreasonable, because Nicola's ex-husband was not only drunk but also had domestic violence. In the end, she couldn't bear it and got divorced. Now that she wants to resume the relationship, she just fainted.

5

The old girl didn't get a good face in Nihal, and at night, she argued with Aidin for no reason. She said that "Flowers on the Prairie" you wrote was too simple and powerless, which of course aroused the dissatisfaction of my brother. He said that you see that you have nothing to do all day long, eat and drink a parasite for free, and you are uncomfortable, so you use your poisonous tongue to pick on me, no wonder your husband divorced you, who can stand you.

This undoubtedly shattered the fragile heart of the old girl. After that, the old girl disappeared from the film, or she left. Although she swore to say that this family business also has my share. For an intellectual woman who does not worry about food and clothing, at least self-esteem is more important than material things.

Occasionally, Edin will chat with the guests for a while. He asked a guy who likes to explore by motorcycle if he has plans for a trip. The guy said, "Life is inadvertently busy, a planned life is not a real life, and adventure is the same." This is the same as the narrative method that defines the film. It has no main line and breaks the traditional film structure, but it is still extremely attractive. Just like the Italian film "The Tree of Clogs" that we have seen before, it is delicate and touching.

In fact, the one who gave Edin the most headache was of course his young wife Nihal. After several years of marriage, there has been no substantial communication, and it seems that they have never met at one point. They sleep in separate rooms at night without disturbing each other. This untrue husband and wife relationship was originally peaceful on the surface, and outsiders seemed to have nothing to do with it. It's just that as time goes by, she, who feels extremely lonely, feels that he doesn't understand her caring for her more and more, and always loves to be ironic when it comes to topics. Finally broke out on one thing.

7

That night, Aidin found that the reception room of the hotel was very lively. It turned out that Michal invited many guests to hold a fund-raising party. Most of the people she invited were all men, and there was even a young male teacher named Levent. She focused on his eyes, which made Aiden really unbearable. What's worse, she asked Aiden not to get involved in this matter, made him confused, and made an excuse to let him who had sat down to leave, not to appear here. After he went out, he had no choice but to sit in the empty cemetery dully. When he returned, he was extremely depressed when he saw his wife laughing and talking with them, and his hair was messed up. This night is destined to make Ai Lao sleepless.

What happened next was logical. The two argued endlessly. Michal said, "I just want to do a meaningful thing to raise funds for difficult schools, but you are getting more and more selfish and arrogant, always trying to limit me." Ai Lao said, "You have nothing to worry about here. I'm busy here and there. I just hope you can take care of yourself. What else are you dissatisfied with?" She said, "I married you at the beginning, of course I liked you, but now I am bound by you and have no freedom and no myself. Our paths have long been separated on the same roof. My whole youth is wasted here, I don't trust you again." Ai Lao replied, "Every morning we have countless fantasies, but we wander around all day. If you are not satisfied, you can leave at any time, and no one will stop you."

8

In the end, Ai Lao calmed down. He said that I just want to see your list of fundraisers, for fear of making mistakes. She said look, it's all there. After that, Ai Lao came again, "I want to live a peaceful life, I didn't read your list, count it as mine." He put down an envelope of money "I want to go back to Istanbul to rest for a while". She didn't say anything. In the dark of night, he walked into the stable, patted the horse he loved, and then saw the white horse run away.

When the snow was flying, Edin embarked on a journey of departure. But he didn't really leave, but after standing around the train station, he suddenly asked Hidaya to drive to his old friend Savina. It was really a snowy night, and Savi warmly welcomed him. The young teacher Levant also came to visit. Originally, Lao Ai and Levent had a very happy talk, but in the end, they broke up because of the charity topic. Even so, such a snowy night still has a kind of Zen state in ancient China, which is reminiscent of our childhood in the snowy night of the twelfth lunar month and the first lunar month. Ceylon is a director who is very good at creating poetic scenes in the world. Although the personnel are quiet, it is natural.

9

Also on this snowy night, Michal, who advocates ideals, drove to Hamdi's house to visit little Ilyas, which made Hamdi Ogard of the poor family flattered. Little Ilyas, who was doing his homework, didn't seem to ignore it like he did before. When he asked him what grade he was in, he said that he was in the second grade. During her private meeting with Hamdi, she kindly took out an envelope of money, saying that she wanted to help their family and nothing else. Hamdi was overwhelmed and said that you gave too much money.

At this moment, Ismail, who had been drunk all day, returned, and he picked up an envelope of money contemptuously and said, "This is your donation to appease your conscience, to laugh at our lives." As he spoke, he quietly threw the wad of money into the roaring stove, making her cry. It turns out that charity is not appreciated, and idealism is worthless in the face of the dignity of the poor. It seems that it is not unreasonable for Lao Ai to be afraid that she will make mistakes.

10

After Old Aidin shot and killed a hare on the white snowy field, he passed by Jiali Pukeyou Primary School. , After hesitating, he hurried past after all. At least for now, home is the final destination.

He drove back to his home, which was shrouded in darkness. Entering the yard, he stood still in the snow, looking affectionately at Michal in the window with his hands on his chest, and said, "Istanbul is like another place to me, it doesn't attract me at all, in this In the world, except you, there is no one else to worry about, you treat me as your servant or slave, let us finish our life together, forgive me!" That night, old Aidin sat at the computer desk as usual, Wrote the title of the book "History of Turkish Drama". The snow was still drifting quietly outside the window, and the entire quiet Anatolia was dyed in a snow-white hibernation.

Winter Sleep quotes

  • Aydin: Justice doesn't even exist in nature, why should it exist here?

  • Aydin: [Epilogue] Nihal, I didn't go away. I couldn't. Whether it's because I've grown old, or I've gone mad, or because I've become a different man, think what you like. I just don't know. But this new man inside me for a few days won't let me go away. Please, don't ask me to go either. I now understand nothing is calling me to Istanbul. Everything is alien to me there as it is everywhere else. I want you to know that I have no one but you. And I miss you every minute, every second that goes by. But my pride will never let me tell you this. I know very well how to terrible or impossible it would be to part from you. Just as I know that you do not love me anymore. I know we can't go back to the old days. And there is no need to. Take me with you like a servant, like a slave. And let us continue our life even if we do it your way. Forgive me.
