I watched this film on a plane from Tokyo to Vietnam, because there are no English subtitles, I listened to the English voice, half of it can be understood, and half of it was finished by guessing.
What its story brings to my mind
The story is very simple. It is the story of a pair of lovers struggling to survive after being killed at sea, but the boy did not survive to the end because of serious injuries. The main line is still dominated by girls. She needs to do a lot of things, to drag the injured boyfriend floating on the sea to the boat, to find drinking water and food, to repair their boat, and to take care of the boyfriend... But The girl's every move touches my heart. After all, the environment is so harsh, they have lost contact with the outside world, only a few drops of water are ticking when they turn on the faucet, and the food reserves are pitifully small. It is such an environment, and they don't know when the end will be. When I saw the girl was surprised to find a jar of peanut butter, and excitedly digging it with her fingers to feed it to her boyfriend, and put it in my mouth, I burst into tears. The harsh environment made them hungry.
In such an environment of lack of water, lack of food, and occasional rain at sea, they cuddled with each other, and at first they still hoped to survive the first week, the second week, the third week, but what? God is too cruel, and the fourth week has passed, and they still have not encountered a ship that can provide rescue. The hope that the two held from the beginning was also exhausted, and the two began to faint without interruption. In the end, her wounded boyfriend still did not receive the dawn of rescue. The girl was left alone on the boat, waiting for the rescue boat to approach. When at dawn she heard a nearby boat passing by, she struggled to send out a distress signal and was rescued. Then the rescue crew gave her an apple, and she looked at the apple and wept. I followed her with wet eyes. "Thank you for the miracle of life and for giving me a chance to continue living." Life is so precious, how can you give up so easily. In a severe environment, her first thought was how to live. She made me understand the preciousness of life and made me cherish the gift given by God even more - my precious life, and use this one life to experience the world's Everything is beautiful, go and unleash the power it contains.
This time I went to Vietnam to dive in the waters of the outlying islands. I can’t swim, and I was very scared after going into the water. I didn’t know how to move my hands and feet to know my balance. After accidentally choking a few mouthfuls of seawater, I realized that the seawater is so salty that salty teeth will become astringent. Only then did I understand why the heroine in the film was so annoyed that there was no drinking water in the tap, but refused to drink sea water.
Shooting method
The director's way of shooting is also unique. Both lines expand at the same time. A line is from the two people who met at the pier and went on a trip together, which is warmer and sweeter. One line is from the time they floated at sea after the hurricane destroyed their boat to the time their boyfriend died and the girl was rescued. Although the two lines are front and back, the director unfolds the two lines side by side, making people more aware of the changes in their lives before and after a hurricane. Desperate, why did God give them such a big joke?
For the last shot that switches between the two lines, the director unanimously adopts a picture: a small boat floating silently on the boundless blue sea. This picture is like a TIP, let me stop for a second in front of the picture, pause, and think about what more cruel reality they need to face next.
