Ferdinand and Wang Yisheng

Looking at the protagonist Ferdinand, I thought of the protagonist in the novel "The King of Chess" - Wang Yisheng

I think they have three things in common

1. Responding to change with the constant Wang Yisheng and Ferdinand are both eccentrics under universal values, and their actions are not understood by their peers. Wang Yisheng loves to play chess, at school, on the narrow train table, on the farm where living conditions are difficult, after missing the sports meeting. No matter what kind of environment he is in, he loves to play chess and wants to play chess. Ferdinand loves flowers, sneers at the same kind who advocate violence, grows up with it, loves her little girl, and kills his father's cold-blooded matador. No matter who is on the other side, he loves flowers and wants to protect them. The world in front of them is ever-changing. For Wang Yisheng and Ferdinand, no matter how the world in front of them changes, what remains the same is the love in their hearts.

2. Active accession to the WTO could have ignored the same kind of people with different ideas, let alone the kind of people who have always been cynical to themselves. After knowing that bullfighting will die in the face of matadors, Ferdinand constantly changes the concept of "bullfighting is to fight" through his own efforts, even if he encounters setbacks. In the novel, after missing a chess match, Wang Yisheng offered to compare his chess skills with the top three players in the game, and finally agreed to a wheel battle with the nine players.

3. Treat others with kindness On the bullring, Ferdinand had the opportunity to kill the bullfighter to avenge his father's death after being provoked by the bullfighter, but he chose to let go of his hatred and let the bullfighter go. In the chess game, after a fierce confrontation, Wang Yisheng could have defeated the old chess king by virtue of his advantage, and instead became the new chess king himself. In the face of the old chess king's request for a tie, he finally chose to save the old chess king's face and ended the game with a tie.

"Consistent with change" is Lao Zhuang's Wuwei philosophy, and "actively joining the WTO" is Confucianism. When I see traditional Chinese ideas in a foreign cartoon, I am surprised and proud!

PS: I hope those "geeks" will be accepted and respected by the world, and everyone can do what they want to do!

Ferdinand quotes

  • Angus: [blindly stumbling about the yard, trying to blow his hair out his eyes] Ooh! Who did that! Oh, who pushed me? Who? Who... .

    [bumps into the tractor]

Angus: It was YOU, wasn't it?

Ferdinand: Actually Angus, it was me.

Angus: Aw, I'm doomed. I'm doomed, I'm doomed, I'm doomed! Primero picks a bull tomorrow, and I'm talkin' to a bloomin' tractor!

  • Angus: [Ferdinand figured how to get his hair out of his eyes for the first time in his life] I can see! Look, a rock! And another rock!

    [sees Lupe]

Angus: And the world's most ugliest dog! And there it is, my nemesis! I'm comin' for YOU, ye wee wooden devil!

[charges the barrel and destroys it]

Angus: I did it! I finally beat you!

[Jumps up and down on it]

Angus: Beat you! Beat you! Beat you! Beat you! Beat you! Oh, look at that, that's spectacular!

[he goes to admire the view across the countryside]

Angus: You've given me a fighting chance, Ferdinand. Why would you do such a thing?

Angus: If we don't look out for each other, who will? Besides, it wasn't that big of a deal.

    Angus: It was for me.
